My SX has a 'switch' to heat the carbs. I only used it once or twice when it was -30 and when it was snowing REAL hard one time.
But I don't see any mention of the heated carbs in the manual? Someone else said they are electric heated, and on all the time?
Is there a secret carb switch or not?

TurboMike, the carbs on the RX-1 are heated with coolant but there is no shut-off valves like in previous models; they are always on. My 700 XTC had coolant lines on the carbs but also had a shut-off valve. I know others on here have added a valve. This is on my to-do list as well and will check into getting the valve that was used on my XTC.

They also have electric carb heaters as well. Im not sure when they turn on but there is a fuse for them in the fuse block and the cdi controls them.

I was reading through my 05 manual and it said you can shut the coolant off to the carbs on RX10MK/RX10MSK. I assume that is the mountian versions as my 05 RX1-ER does not have this shutoff valve.
For that matter, here are the 7 models listed on the manual - I have an idea, but a few are ???
RX10K - RX-1
RX10MK - RX-1 Mountain
RX10MSK - Not sure??
RX10RK - RX-1 ER
RXW10K - RX-1 Warrior
RXW10-SK - Not sure??
So what does the S mean?? And am I correct in assuming the RX10RK is the RX-1 ER version??
The manual does not specify the difference and I can not find the model # anywhere on my sled.

The reason alot of us installed a coolant shutoff, was it helped to prevent the hard starting issue with a hot sled.

The carbs are also heated electricly, but that shut off automaticly when the engine is at operating temps. I have an 03 RX1 mountain and installed the carb coolant shut off. I noticed an incress of fuel economy right away. Only turn on the coolant heaters when its down around 0 degrees.

i have a shut-off valve on mine and never turn them on. I put over 6000kms (3700 miles?) on my last sled, a 98 xtcp 700 and turned on the heated carbs twice i think.

mmmkokanee, did you end up using the same shut-off valve that was on your XTC. I too had a 98 XTC and was thinking I could just order the same shut-off valve.

that one would work, but mine is different (i think it is available from yamaha as i've seen it on a few rx1's now). It is a small inline with a red rubber coated handle. It was on the sled when i bought it this spring...I bought it used, but only had 50 miles on it.

Kenlacy; I think the "S" in the two models you can't figure out would be the Spring Order only LE models that come in matte black.

The shut offs will help with the hard starting, but someones going to need explain to me how/why the mileage will increase.

You have a point JDKRXW. I thought you get better gas milage in the summer and worse in the winter? I can't remember, its been so long since I've checked my vehicles.

So having the carbs warmed up, the air might be a tad bit warmer once it passes through. Also, cold, dense air gives you more horsepower.
