Anyone ever try to do this on a sled?

I see that BRP makes a replacement seat skin for the XPs that has a built in heating element.

It doesn't look like it would be too big of a deal to adapt one of the many heated seat retro-fit kits available on eBay.

A lot of the ebay kits are 2 heater pads that are 19" by 11" each and on high output would draw 60 watts total. I run HID headlights so with the HIDs and the seat heaters I'd be at about 20 watts over the wattage draw of a stock sled with halogen headlamps. Would that be pushing it with regard to stator output?

The other wrinkle that would have to be figured out is whether or not the heater element would be visible under the seat fabric. A lot of the ebay kits say that they are 1/32 thick, but the videos and photos make them look thicker than that. hmmmm

Anyway the kits are anywhere from $59-90 and got me thinking about trying to set one up on my apex.

A liquid cooling circuit with a bypass valve might be a better use of power.

I've always thought a heated seat on a sled would result in a wet a$$ most of the time, especially if you ride in powder at all. Maybe I'm wrong?

In powder yeah maybe you're right. I was out last night riding cedar creek and some Washington Co. trails and it was pretty cold for me at least (-1F). When I got home to change clothes my @ss was fricken cold. Thats when I recalled seeing those heated seat elements on ebay.

There must be something to them if skidoo is making them.

Once you have your grips warm, there is almost no reserve left in the stator other than the safety margin.
The HIDs will draw less, but not that much less.
This will put your stator at a pretty good risk of a slow death.
(It will slowly cook.)

The coolant idea is kinda cool & wouldn't hurt anything.
It is waste energy anyway.

I also wondered about the snow melting with the heat.
Personally, would rather be cold & dry, than wet... lol
At the same time, have never tried it, so it may be really great!

Did get the Polar Fleece from Lake Effect this year, am seriously happy with it!
