Heated Shield Question

I guess it's not a good habit, but I don't even charge my batteries and have no issues. My Harley sits through winter, no starting issues come spring. 400EX sits through winter and is only driven 4-5 times a year, no starting problems. Both in outside sheds. Harley is an '00 400EX is '02

Get the most out of it.

jmbones,
I have done the same thing in the past. I have found it is fine for aprx. 3-5 years and then all of the sudden one time it just woun't enen have the power to start to crank, even when you just started it and drove it for awhile. And because of that, the battery draws all the juice when jumping, and is pretty hard to get it fired up, even worse when it is cold.
Not an expert, but some get a few years out of doing nothing, and have herd of others getting as much as 10 years, probably with alot of baby sitting though.
Personally I change all my batteries at about three years, and use battery tenders on seasonal batteries. I have also had a battery sitting around and did not have a tender on it, took it to have it tested and the machine gave a print out of a very bad battery. And out of curiosity I took it home put it on a 2ma charger for two days, took it back and had my self a good battery. My point is that those state of the art battery testers might not be that good on a dead battery, because I have been using it for a year. :o|
And I bet the battery store sees me coming from a mile away, and as soon as I leave they are probably fighting for my old batteries. Allways wondered how they knew me by first name?!?
