I was going to go that route too but heard they fall out regularily?
I ended up wiring mine directly to the battery but just found out I could have wired it directly to the battery leads that come out the right side for charging/boosting.

Yep. It can be done, but an adapter is needed.
If you were to just splice a DC plug onto the visor wire, it will blow the little 3a fuse every time.

Dont waste your money, buy the Yamaha one. Yamaha has an accessory plug with a multiple ring seal around the plug that helps it stay in the socket. Yamaha makes one with the RCA on it already or a generic one that you can wire anything to it. I bought the generic Yamaha one and wired an RCA plug to it because it was cheaper. It works great. When I added a GPS the 12V plug that came with the GPS wouldnt stay in the socket because it did not have the seal on the plug. I wound up adding a second lighter socket under the hood for the GPS so I could use both the heated shield and the GPS. G.B.

I always wired to the fuse box. Pull one of the fuses, feed the wire down by the prong and reinstall the fuse to hold it in place. Put the wire on "fused" side and you'll have safe connection.
