Do I need to buy the Yamaha accessory kit for wiring in a plug for my heated visor or can I just tap into the headlight wire under the handlebar pad like on my Viper?? Anyone?

Any 4 stroke quirks that might make the headlight circuit a no-no?

Thanks

no use the wire that the accessory plug would plug into
it is on a separate circuit and fused. you can also but the RC plug off a new vector and mount it on the handle bars the switch is a little pricy from yamaha but it look's nice and clean an mounts on the handle bars. that what i did to my apex

Someone should chime in here soon and give you direction on hard wiring your heated shield lead. It certainly has been done by many on here.

I use the acessory plug and have been real happy with it. I dont always ride with my heat shield full face helmet and ride more often with a MX helmet and goggles. The acessory plug comes two ways. 1) pre-wired with an RCA jack or 2) universal with no wiring. I bought the universal one because I remember it being cheaper and added my own RCA to it. G.B.

the plug is right there , so all you have to make a choice buy the switch Part# 8HK-8254B-00-00 R/C type switch and plug it into the conector for the cig switch, it is the easy way to do, What i did was splice my so i could have both, run gps one and heated visor on the other I like this switch is because it mounts on the handle bar just like it came from the factory.

Hook it onto the battery jumper cables that are clipped to the frame in front of the oil tank.

This is what I did for my Apex & a riding buddies Apex.

Then I ran the wire along the frame & up through the steering column. Make sure to use plenty of zipties to keep it away from moving or hot parts, but leave plenty of slack in the steering column.

Just solder splice an RCA whip into the acc. plug wires located on the upper left side of the dash and run cord along the brake cable ty wrap and dangle plug out of bar pad...

Does the ACC outlet still have a 3A fuse? I've heard of some people blowing them so I ran dedicated wires to the battery jumper lugs (like another poster here said) and put a 5A inline fuse.

I run my phone charger in the ACC outlet...don't want to lose power JIC. :yam:

CORRECT!!

The D/C outlet is too weak for a heated visor. That tiny 3A fuse will pop.

Wire the damn thing to the battery jumpers & be done.

I hard wired mine to the battery. I also ran a seperate circuit for my GPS and power point. Pretty easy to do, just make sure the circuits hare fused.

So no one has tied into the headlight circuit like on the 2 strokes?

HOLY $HIT!!! For the last time..... NO!!!

Wire it to the battery jumper extensions & be done.

Or are you the type of guy who thrives on making a job harder than it needs to be? Why strip & splice wires, only to find out it doesn't work.

I don't mean to sound like a total prick, but take our advise for pete's sake. :o|

I don't like the idea of changing fuses to a larger size just so I can use the DC accessory. I smell burnt wires....

I'll likely take your advice and run the wires from the battery. But I hate removing the air box on the Vector because of the short vent line that connects to the bottom... Pain in the butt.

But I guess it's the best option.
