I'm a big guy and my dealer is suggesting it. Anybody tried it and what does it cost?

Plenty of flat landers have installed the spring. Click here for thread on prices. Also check out the Apex/Attak FAQ in my signature for link to sizes.

I go 300 lbs. Dealer suggested it as a way to not wear out my shocks to soon. I've heard of other sleds doing it also. It's on my list but not a priority.

Was there better shocks on the SE model for 2007?

Possible upgrades to get rid of the problem for the the apex mountain skid frame; öhlins or venture mp gas shock, anti bot. kit and HD tors. springs
Shoot Trublue a pm. He had springs and a Venture MP gas shock for sale a while ago. Good guy to deal with - I bought a anti bot. kit from him this summer.

You will need the heavier springs. Stock spring rate is 1500 and the heavy springs are 2100. Stock spring works for 170 to 220 lb riders.
You might also want to upgrade to the '09 MTX HPG center and rear shocks. They realy help with bottoming.

I am about 190 LBs with all my gear on so why does it bottom out if I hit a swell in the trail at high speeds?
Port Yamaha sent me part #s for 2 new springs

Spring
Cost me 108.00 to have the "Fat Boy" spring done at the dealer, they threw in the labor I paid for the spring. '07 RS Rage. Have not ridden since it was don but what a difference just sitting on it, everything I read it is the best way to go. I go 250+ gear

Do you feel it in your butt or feet when it bottoms or do you hear a clunk?
If you feel it, it is bottoming. Feet = cener shock and butt = rear. Otherwise you are hearing or feeling the center and rear coupling which is an anti-bottoming feature.
A suspention that bottoms on occation means you are using all of its travel and is set up right. If it never bottoms, it's too stiff. If it bottoms all the time and you can feel it all the way to your jaw, you have some work to do.

^^^^
Yes it is only doing that sometimes but not very often. I have to be going pretty darn fast over a swell on the trail to make it happen. It does ride very nice though. I am overall very happy with the ride

Thanks for the info.
I put the heaviers torsion and shock springs on and noticed a difference. I still bottom it out though. I do wiegh close to 400#'s with all my gear though......
I'd like to find a little stiffer spring set up and maybe even a coil over system for my rear shock on my 07' MTN. I'm working on something and if it works I'll let you know but if anyone else has any suggestions please post em'.

shock suggestions
Fireman,
If you have the heavy torsion springs already and the Venture shock the other options are to put the anti bottom stops on the rails or mount a set of scratchers in the forward most hole under the torsion spring. (you'll see three holes drilled in the rails close together behind the first idler wheel, mount the scratchers there and it will keep the springs from bottoming) Also there is a bigger torsion spring block with a 4th step to increase the tension see the link below, http://www.hiperf.com/acatalog/Snowmobi ... s_289.html ,
they are called X-click suspension blocks.
I would highly suggest that you send the Venture shock to Carver and talk with Mike, tell him what you weigh and he will progressively valve the shock to compensate for your weight....this makes a HUGE difference. The problem is Yamaha is trying to compensate for their crappy shocks with heavy torsion springs which then make the suspension like a pogo stick. The torsion spring is suppose to be for rebound help and tension settings not shock absorbtion on the compression stroke from bumps in the trail.
>>>
Now you were asking about a coil over version rear skid, yes Holz used to make one for our sleds and K-MOD still does, great suspension with awesome ride characteristics, excellent transfer, get's on top of the snow immediately and handles the trails incredibly well, costs about 1250.00 set up for heavy guys like you and I and you'll loose about 20 lbs with installing it.

Re: shock suggestions
Cool I contacted hiperf about that block.
I don't have a Venture shock yet. What years fit the APEX?
I've thought about the K-Mod Skid but here's my deal, I live in MO and haul my sled to WY for 2 (week long) trips each year. I want to have a good performing sled with some upgrades but I’d rather put most of my money into my R1 and Raptor which I get to ride more often.
