I have a 03 RX. I'm looking to lighten the rear of the sled. The weight of the front end dosen't bother me, but when I get stuck I have a hard time lifting the back end compared to other sleds I've owned.

Would a aftermarket muffler help alot? Is that where the weight is coming from?

Pipe saves about 10 lbs I think depending on manufacturer. BOSS seat saves another 8 - 10 lbs. Biggest problem I find is the ice and snow buildup in the skid. Last ride I was out in pretty deep powder. When I got home, I could hardly lift the back of the sled on a concrete floor, let alone out on the trail. Must have been over 50 lbs of ice and snow in there. I don't see how to fix that, but it sure makes for a back breaking experience when you get stuck. I think your best bet is to not get stuck. Burried my 03 shorty last year and it took 3 hours to dig out using my tool box cover. Moral of story, don't let up the throttle in powder!

A different skid M-10 or Expert-X would shave between 10# - 20#'s I think???

A Bender pipe or equivelent would shave 10+#

Punch the track. OR drill holes in it OR both.

And I'd have to agree about the Boss seat vs. OEM, even though I have a Nytro on my RX-1 (IMHO: Function>Weight savings)

With my 136" conversion, I noticed that the tunnel ext. increased the leverage and made it easy to lift, but as others have said, snow & ice build-up is the MAJOR culprit. Once you burry these things, they are a PITA to lift.

I was told that the new sno-bunjies work excellent for pulling out stuck sleds, while eliminating most of the sweat & fatigue associated with the process.

I think the rear cooler also eliminates quite a bit of the rear ice too, especially on 136" sleds.
Cat Skid = 20 lb. weight reduction
Exhaust = 10 lbs.
Seat = 10 lbs.

Its actually real easy to get rid of the ice problem. It is ALL due to the hanging tunnel protectors. Get rid of the tunnel protectors and the ice goes with it.

Mine ARE gone. I get lots in the rear of the tunnel and everywhere inside the track. Loads up inside the track, especially around the front shock / w arm. Gotta be killing ride quality too with all that unsprung weight.

hmm.. might be related to the flap-bracket on the shorty... is the snow getting cought on it? Also, if I remember correctly (and I do), those proaction skids are horrible for holding on to ice.

Yes, yes, and yes. D) all the above.

M7 skid = 20+lbs
Single glass-pack exhaust = 15+lbs
Hartman tunnel extension = 5lbs
Boss seat = 10lbs
MPI Rear Brackets = 8lbs
--------------------------------------------
Total 58+lbs

That's all in the back! Is that enough???
