I have a buddy I think I'm going to be very jeleous of shortly.

His wife gave him the nod to buy any new mountain sled he wants. He rode Yamaha's back in the early 80s and wants one again. He hasn't ridden since! At least he has good taste.

Like me, I suspect he will be riding roughly 40% trails, 40% boondocking 10% hill climbing and 10% drag racing.

He can't believe how L-O-N-G the Apex Mountain sleds are but he wants the 150 hp engine and fuel injection. Honestly I think he might be better off with a Vector Mountain with a 151 since he hasn't ridden in 20+ years. The wind protection would certainly be better. How about the Vector SE?

We talked about a Phazer Mountain Lite but he wants to be able to keep up with the rest of group.

So, what do you guys think he should do?

Is the Apex Mountain SE worth the extra $800 over the standard Apex Mountain?

Heck, I would like to sell him my RX-1 Mountain and then I'd buy an Apex Mountain but he says he wants a NEW sled.

Well, what do you think?

Thanks for the help!

IMO no but some (maybe most) will disagree.

There are some great used deals out there. I just sold an 06 Apex with 214 miles for $8,500. that's a great deal on a sled that isn't broken in yet.

Buy the Apex Mtn. Not L-O-N-G. Looks can be deceiving. Drag your hand under the track, it's tipped up at the back.
Sorry Frosty but he should buy the Apex mtn. It has better power and handling than the RX1 mtn.
I haven't adjusted my shocks yet,But if going to vary how and where you ride it's a nice plus. They come with a pump and guage.

03' RX1 mtn totalled
07 Apex mtn SE

The apex's have tipped up rails they corner like a 136" on the trails.
There's is alot of guys on snowest that don't like the float shocks on the mtn sled there awesome on short tracks for trail riding just not for powder.

at this point, i would wait for the release of the 08s, see if the 130 hp mountain class gets upgraded, and then make a choice between a left over 07 vector/apex mnt, or check a new one. prices on leftovers are plummeting fast with the lack of snow this season.... could find a great deal if your not looking for the new one.

Thanks guys. Keep the good ideas coming!

PS: What are the chances of a 180 - 200 HP Naturally Aspirated Apex coming our for next year?

i wouldnt think that good. The other brands have 162hp and 170hp, being Cat and Doo, respectively. I would think that yamaha might bump it up to 155-160 but i see the Apex going unchanged, maybe BNG, an optional shorter track, or something very simple.

So far the best deal we have been able to find is an Apex SE for $9,555 with no freight and setup.

He wanted red anyway so this will probably work out well for him.

I caught myself wondering how many of the accessories from my RX-1M would fit on a new Apex?

I know the Shockwave adjustable helix would and maybe my Holz lightweight A arms (aren't the A arms the same)?
Do heavy Hitters work well on the Apex?
The rest of the stuff would probably have to stay on the sled.
