The last time (second time) that my dealer replaced my donuts under YES he said that the donut was an improved design from Yamaha.
Is this true that Yamaha improved the donuts from the original design? If so, was it a material of construction change?
My originals and the first replacements only lasted a few thousand miles each. I have not had my most recent replacements installed long enough to tell if they are any better.
Does anybody have any experience as to how much longer the supposedly improved OEM donuts may last? How long are the copper ones lasting? Any downside to the copper donuts besides the clamping issue described in this thread?

I can answer, YES, that the OEM,s had a change maybe 1.5 years ago. The material is said to be different, although appears very similar to me. The kit also come with a new clamp and bolt which is said to hold better. I really can not answer any of your other questions other than to say, my Originals went about 6000 miles, and now I have about 1800 miles on the new and improved set. I just looked at them last week, and all appears well.

rbig18 is probably the only person in Texas with a sled! Here I thought that I put a lot of miles on my tow vehicle to find good snow last year!

Yep- got a sled in Texas. Crazy I know but when you gotta sled you gotta sled
I ended up replacing one y pipe as I must have over tightened a clamp. All back together now. Seems ok but I have to say it still will not die with a rag test. I suppose only a day of sledding will tell me if it is all put back properly.
Just got my mono shock back from Bruce at Pioneer so will be rebuilding the skid and then she is all set to go. Only a few months and a 2000 mile drive between me and the white stuff.

Put your sled gloves on that you use to ride, with your palm cover both exhaust tips, it should die almost instantly. If it doesn't you still have a leak, now that may not matter and I wouldn't take it apart again but there could be a crack in he muffer or somewhere else.
Yes I agree I wrench a lot on my sled and bar none the worst is this F'ing exhaust.
You get the award for most distance from snow! I thought we were bad in north Iowa!
