Help! My rubber carb slide bellows have grown and don't fit!

Tonight I went to install my Silver Holtzman springs (now I wonder if I should be installing green springs). I pulled out the slide and raised my needles back up to 1 click richer than stock (#4). I noticed my carb slide bellows (the rubber cups around the carb slides) had all grown and did not want to fit back into the grooves made for them in the top of the carb. I had one heck of a time trying to stuff them into the groove. I was chasing the part that wouldn't fit around the top of the carb. That was about the time I knocked the #1 little "Damn it" O ring off and had to go hunting. Luckily I found it and finally got the carbs back together.

Has anyone else noticed their carb slide bellows have grown in size? I think I know what caused it too. I'm betting it was the spray carb cleaner I used after it was running like crap last time I brought it home. Now I'm wondering if I can wash them in hot soapy water like the I did with the O rings that had also grown in size on my MSRX head O ring gaskets. It worked for them, will it work on these?

I also think I need to order an extra set of those little O rings and a couple extra little white nylon washers that go on either side of the clutch weights. It's only a matter of time before I lose one and I'm S.O.L. PB

Damn PB...you do have you fair share of problems don't you!

Yes...carb cleaner or parts washer solvent will expand the bellows. Clean with soap and water as you describe or non chlorinated barke cleaner and then put them near a hot air heater that blows air to dry them well. They will shrink back down to size and fit.

So, how did you figure out 1.0 was the optimum setting for the TPS?

So, what did you find in your testing of the midrange and the results of the use of different needles?

Concering the TPS, I too was wondering why he set it to 1.07 but then later on in the post, stated that setting it to 1.0 would allow the TPS to reach 4.0 @ full throttle. I ended up setting mine last night to 1.07. As Toolman stated, there was no need to remove the carbs. I just removed the two bolts holding the fuel pumps and then disconnected the fuel lines and had plenty of room to work. If it ends up that the TPS should be set to 1.0, it shouldn't take but maybe 15 min. to adjust.

Clean them and put them in the freezer for a couple of minutes. I have used this trick on my GSXR carbs in the past when I am working on them. Dont freeze them just cool them down. Try not to handle them alot it seems to make them grow.

You guys better be real carefull with the bellows and the little ORings. I had a real bad day a couple of weeks ago because the little ORing got under the edge of the bellow, it wouldn't let that slide open and I was only opening 3 carbs all day till I figured it out. I happened to start and run it without the airbox, when I revved it only 3 carbs opened. So pay extra attention to this.

It is Spray.....G.....I didn't know that would make it grow! LOL Hey, did you set your TPS? If so, did you set it to 1?

Man I feel for you guys I have a large supply of those little o-rings. These carbs are very similar to those on both my GSXR 750 and 1100. In fact the jet kits are very similar in that my satge 3 had 2 K&N air filters 1 for 2 each pair of carbs. I loved these kits on my Gixxers and they made quite a difference. Kudos to Supertuner for doing what K&N and Dynojet didnt want to bother with. I have lost a crapload of those little O-rings and had the same problems with the bellows also watch putting your CV springs in I have not had these carbs apart but on a gixxer there was a small nipple inside the spring cover that the spring has to go around. If you are not careful the spring could pop out and just be laying on the top of the cover. Thank god my Hayabusa has fuel injection I just plug in a laptop to my Power Commander and adjust the fuel richer or leaner every 1000 RPMs on a graph depending on what the dyno reads.
