New to the forums. My 85 phazer recently blew up. Going to look at an 08 Nytro RTX tomorrow. What do I need to look for? I have read the front frames can be prone to cracking. Will I be able to see this without removing a bunch of parts? Is it usually visible on all if the exposed suspension and a arms? I have already been told the front bumper is bent. It also has mbrp exhaust. Does it need to have a fuel controller since the exhaust is different? What else should I look for?
Thanks in advance for helping a new guy out.

Check for bent subframe. If shocks are not centered between A-arms its probably bent. Look under the nose area. There is a flat plate with a hole in it. If that plate has any waves or wrinkles in the metal then the subframe is bent...

Thanks. Looking forward to hopefully updating my ride.

In 2008 I don't believe the nytro's had that flat plate in the sub frame with the round hole in it. Look closely at the welds around the tabs that the inner a arm mount to for cracks. A little off centre with the shocks is no big deal. Just look for obvious bending and tweaking of the front end. Listen to exhaust for leaks in the header gaskets. Just a muffler shouldn't require and fuel programmers.

look at spindles, real easy to tell if subframe bent when spindles are different angles, not to mention one ski will be more out front than the other, just need to have a straight line in front of ski's to compare.

Check rear skid by pushing down and seeing if/how long it takes to rebound, if its inside and thawed out take a good look at both shocks to ensure front shock not blown. Ask if shocks have ever been redone?

Also look at oil res. tank, check for cracks around mounting hardware, of course look for excessive oil/anti freeze, check chain case oil, (mine had ice buildup in oil when I bought it!)

If you purchase ensure you check out both clutch side bearings asap! Also, if you purchase and by some miracle the sub-frame isn't bent, buy the grizz gusset kit for and get it welded on asap...

08's not the best Nytro's out there being 1st year but still a descent machine overall. That said you should still take it out for a spin before pulling the trigger, might not be for you, totally different ride coming from the old phazer!

You mentioned a Bent front bumper. That may indicate a front impact and possible bent subframe

Oilite bushings are $80, if they haven't been replaced they are guaranteed to be sloppy and worn. Not a big deal however, changed mine in a few hours, and that's without ever tackling the task before. Ski bushings are another wear item to look for.

These issues are more of a negotiating item rather than deal breakers.
