HELP! Piercing whistling sound while running

Remove airbox (hoseclamps),
Remove carbs (hoseclamps)
Flip carb rack upside down, put an old bed sheet under it in case you drop anything.

Use a VERY CLEAN AND PERFECT CONDITION #2 philips to remove float bowl screws, be VERY CAREFUL not to strip the heads, the bolts are VERY SOFT.

Use plenty of carb cleaner spray, and a very thin piece of wire (unwind a piece of aircraft cable). Lather it with lots of carb cleaner and poke the wire through all the jets (brass things with small holes in the middle), then reassemble.

When reinstalling the carbs and airbox, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that you seat everything fully. The carbs seat with a "plunk" (that you *feel*). Stick your fingers into the rubber throats on the airbox to make sure that it is inserted correctly over ALL carbs.

Thanks LB. I took the day off and have tried to run some Seafoam through the gas and sprayed a lot of carb cleaner through the throttle bodies. Will run without choke when warm with idle turned up 2 full turns...but when you blip the throttle it revs way high and takes a while to come back down...

Do I need to remove the fuel lines, throttle cable vacuum lines and all that to remove the carb rack as you suggested? How long would you estimate this should take for a "first timer" like me?

Is it possible that this is normal and will work itself out. I've never had to turn the idle up like this before in anything else I've ever owned. When I blip the throttle sometimes it just

stays at like 2500 RPM indefinitely until I blip it again and then it comes down to about 1000 RPM.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I've been looking forward to this trip all winter...and I hope, with your kind help, I might still be able to go. :?
