So I went out for a little spin tonight on the yamadoo. I was not on it extremely hard. And I look down and the header is red hot. The Turbo housing is red hot and I can see on the downpipe O2 bung that the downpipe is red hot.

Is this normal? If not what is going on? According to the O2 gauge the sled is not lean or rich.

I mean I could understand if I was really working the sled but I was not.

you can see redness in metal about 10x more at night, I have ridden mine coming out in the evening, nad it goes from looking totally normal, to the point it is glowing.. just from the changin in lighthing, then again, ican get mine glowing in bright daylight.. but thats due to running the propane a hair rich, it burns in the pipe.

it always freaks me out, but just seems like part of life on the 4 bangers, they seem to run insanely hot, or this just could be something we are messing up, i worried about my cam timing, but if yours is to, your timing is most likely fine.

maybe this is part of the reason we think they dont make the power they should/??

I did have yellow lense googles on and thought maybe that they were causing it to be more extensive but I pulled them off and still hot. I was thinking maybe it was a issue with restriction on the downpipe but I think just the turbo and the header would glow then.

Really I don't know I didn't notice the header ever glowing last year. That is wicked hot and even more wicked hot to have the turbo housing glowing.

I am 99.9% sure my cam timing is correct.

I am also running a .64 turbine housing as well and wondering if this is just to tight? I have a 3 inch downpipe.

Also I think mine actually feels like it runs really well right now. It is crisp and the throttle response is good. But I think I should be able to stand it on end and I can't, But I think that is do to my primary spring right now not grabbing the clutch like it will with the lighter finish spring.

These are of the turbo after sitting idling for a minute. Still pretty glowing orange but nothing like it was.

ya know.. i dont know exactly what the a/r of my mitsu is, but i think it might be even smaller then that.. hard to say. i will look at that, wondering if its making to much restriction for such an insanely short header??

the shorter it is, the less is lost pre turbo, meaning it needs to get out somehow.. HRMm... now you got me wanting a bigger hairdryer.

Thats good to know, then I shouldn't have anything to worry about. I still may port my wastegate and change my downpipe up a little.

not its all good until it cracks just make sure that the builder will stand behind the product
