Can you pull the ignition and go to a locksmith?

If you or your dealer has the code for the key alot of the locksmiths could make one up for you.Local ACE Hardware here can even do it now.

We always tape the spare key under the hood , hides very well with black electrical tape , then no worries !

Anyone heard of a spare?? Kept in a secret place??

The extra key I keep, is in my bilfold. It is always with ME that way, not on my sled.

Just get your dealer to LEND you a complete ignition w/key (plug in-plug out) of a stock sled either in for service or a freind that isn't riding with the same type of sled and GO!

For the spare key I keep mine in my JACKET in the inner pocket...you always ride with your JACKET so its the best place to keep it.

Use a big flat screwdriver as key. You will have to use some force but trust me you will be able to turn the "new key" and your sled will start. Only bad thing is that you will need a new ignition unit if you feel uncomfortable when thinking about that everybody else now can start your sled with a nail clipper. Been there done that and I guess that yamahasleds must be the most easy sleds to steel. Btw, I did this on my own sled because I lost my key and was stranded out in the bush.

Easiest sled was the 95/96 Poo Indy. If you didn't have the key you jaust lifted the hood removed the plug from the back of the ignition (which was right out in the open) then pull start. Couldn't believe it when I herd it, and tried it.

Most old sleds were like that. And unfortunately, there could be people around this site looking for easy ways to steal sleds, so giving out information on hotwiring sleds is generally a VERY VERY BAD IDEA. The sled should be brought into a dealer.
