Yamaha craftmanship totally fascinates me and I want to know more.

I know the the RX1 engine is derived from the R1 motorcycle engine but I would like to know more.

I presume the Apex engine is an evolution of the same 4 cylinder.

But what about the 3 cylinder Vector/Nitro unit, is it based one the same engine to, minus one cylinder?

I have a motorcylce too, a WR250X. Apparantly, that engine is also based on the R1 engine, 1/4 of it.

Is there a website somewhere when I can read up on it? Or maybe somebody that can feed my info need...

The 4 cylinder is a variant of the FZ1-R1 engine. The 3 cyclinder was built specifically for snowmobiles.

I recall reading somewhere the vector motor is a FJR1300 motor with one cylinder removed?

As I recall, the Vector and now Nitro were purpose built sled engines from the ground up. I have to believe the technology was there from other platforms.

I would have to think this is true even for the four cylinder (RX1). The top end may be from the bike, however the bike motor has a gear case. The only bike motor I am aware of without a gear case is the V-twin Harley motor, excluding the sportster which has a gear case. I could be wrong.....would not be the first time.

I think this thread is an oldie but a goodie. Before I bought my new MP I wiki'd Genesis only to find out the first Yamaha Genesis engine with the five valve per cylinder design was used in a motorcycle in 1984. I'm here to say that is a good thing. Is it possible that the silent majority on TY appreciate proven dependable design? Or is that just old guys that ride Venture MPs?
