How can I raise MPG?

Check the track clips, you may be short a few. I had a trip with my apex were I was near even with on fill-ups with the 800 Cat in our group. I knew something was wrong. I had changed gearing before the trip but didn't think that could have made the large change I was seeing. Got back home, I was looking the sled over and noticed half if not more of the track clips were gone or near gone. Replaced them and the mileage came back. Not saying your going to get 14 MPG but something to look for.

I have a 06 Attak that is completely stock and for the last 2 1/2 years have average 14MPG. On the days I run hard in the powder it will fall to 11 and long distance cruising on perfect conditions will get me 16. The norm is right around 14. I have documented every fill up in that time so I can say that sometimes for completely unknown reason I will get very good mileage or very bad mileage.
I have done all the maint that you have mentioned. The only thing I see, that has already been mentioned, is change out the clutch springs. I bought a new one for this year and I can feel the difference between the spring tensions.

Did the o.p. ever state the milage on his sled or did I just miss it. My 06 apex just kept getting better by the mile.

13,700 miles. I put 400 miles on it last season and 300 miles so far this season.

I'm not bragging but I average 14-15 mpg and have seen close to 20 mpg. Last year I drove 154 miles on one tank and never ran out (light was on for about 20 miles though, average speed 50-55 mph, and was the first to show up at our destination out of 5 sleds. I can't say enough about how good the fuel mileage is. Easy on the thumb and very rarely get above 9000 rpm, unless someone wants to get whooped!

It will do 14-15 mpg easy some times better. My Attak mpg just gets better with miles now about 6200. However mpg does vary seems it will drop to 12 & seems I'm riding hard all the time. I don't spin the track for the hell of it I'm more of a midrange punch it guy & power cruiser. Yam 150 best at what I do. 2s just would not hold up burned them down left & right & done with them.

I have also done 150 miles on my sled,WOT for most of the way, but the last 25-30 miles I drove about 30mph,we realized we were not near a gas station, I ended up running out in the middle of the woods at dusk 10 mile from the gas station. Like apex driller, I got about 20 miles with my light on babying it. I now fill up whenever I see a gas station. That was a horrible experience I wish to never have agai.

I need to get 140 miles between fill up. I'm riding with 2 renegade 1200's and a nytro. those guys are getting 14+mpg riding hard and in the powder. I hate being the one having to reroute the trip for gas.

Why did you buy the Apex? Its an awesome sled I love it but I dont think your gonna get what you are looking for out of it, unless you baby throttle. I ride hard and start looking for gas at about 100miles. I have learned the hard way on how far I can push it.

I ride with 3 1200's and the two hi-mileage ones get about 20 miles more then I can do. I am hoping the new clutch springs improve things. They used to ride polaris and were the ones looking for gas, now the rolls are reversed. I have done my absolute best at being easy on the throttle and simply cannot match them.

found a guy wanting to trade some stuff for it. I only had $3800 into the trade and figured I'd give the Yamaha's a try. I also wanted to get away from 2 stroke sleds.

I think I've solved the problem. I'm going to get a tunnel ext and mount a 2 gallon can to it. Tad-ah 20-30 more miles and I can stay on the throttle

this can't be good for gas mileage. pulled the clutch cover off and found the belts outer layer ribs completely torn off and on the bottom of the pan. I had the same thing happen last year and figured it had something to do with the missing and worn buttons. what would cause this?

did you check you clutch alignment?

Nope, front clutch is fixed and the rear floats. Has about an 1/8" play. from the bearing it has collar and a washer, clutch, collar and the bolt.

How many miles are on that belt? That seems to happen to all my belts after anywhere from 1000 to 1300 miles. Usually you can feel the delamination happen, feels like someone through a rock at your tunnel. Sometimes you don't, then on a hard left you slam the throttle as you exit the corner and WEEEEEEEEEE! the engine goes. I think I saw the rev needle hit the peak, good thing these motors are built for 16-18 grand. Talk about a bird nest of belting, I was pulling pieces out until the day I sold that sled. I got in the habit of just randomly checking the belt at stops throughout the day.
