Just wondering if the trails up around Timmins, Hearst area are close to opening any time soon and if they even have any snow. Just wondering as I am looking to go up there just after christmas.

- Hey HOMEHARDWARE65. My cousin lives in Prescott, and works at Riverside!
- I think they're packing in Duberville, 4hrs north of Sault Ste. Marie.
- It'll be a week or two yet...
- You're closer to Maniwaki area...how's it there?
- I was there 5 years ago on an ATV and it looked good.

I read that they where out grooming in Dubervill all day today.
BTW How are your trails locally. I know there is no snow. Not sure how Prescott is doing water wise but in Stittsville/Smiths Falls the swamps are VERY wet with a lot of flowing water as of last Saturday, not good news for local trails! Good news is that I was out putting signs up today and there was finally a layer to ice on some ponds.
I think North bay/Mattawa may be getting enough snow for an very early January ride if we are lucky.
Also a lot of the trails in Rolphton/Deux Rivière have bridges over water so one they get snow they usually open up pretty quick. Much closer to home and they have awesome trails.

they're not grooming yet in Timmins and probably won't be until the end of the month unless we get a good dump of snow

Sounds like Ontario is in the same boat as Saskatchewan. I am tired of the +2 to 3 weather every few days. We have so little snow it sucks. I am also tired of hearing people say oh what great weather isn't it nice out today and the snow is even melting. I could just smack those people.

Seriously, then they give you a dirty look when you tell them that actually you can't wait for more snow and wish the temps would just drop.

They are in the wrong place then my friend, where I am we've had grass till the middle of January for the past two years and the snow we got after that melted away twice. Higher than average snow fall but the warm ups annihilate the trails and play areas. I am praying for snow north of my and none in Toronto so I don't have to go plow snow and can go play in it instead. Is is sad while I plow in Toronto I dream of climbing the giant snow piles and playing in the parks on my sled?

Yes, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls and Cochrane have had groomers out. Trails that are mostly roads I would say are going to be good. We have not had the Timmins groomers out yet but its probably getting close. Swamps are lakes are freezing good so once there is enough snow the trails sound be pretty good.
In Kapuskasing last weekend there were people going for trail rides but you could see twigs sticking up so riding wouldn't be the greatest but with a bit more snow the trails will open up quickly I think.
