Canada Trails

There is no grooming happening in Quebec, not even Mont Valin. Not Yet.
There is some snow in the Mont Valin Area but nothing crazy.

Still too early.

Everything Ontario and Quebec are currently closed according to trail reports on their websites. In my area of Ontario even if there is enough snow and cold weather they do not open the trails until the farmers/landowners have there livestock winterized LOL so even if we get early snow have to wait till January and cold weather to ride. Plus there are swamps and rivers that need to freeze in order for most trail networks to be safe to ride.

Stupid question alert

How is a trail closed or opened? I mean i can think groomed or not groomed but if there is enough snow to ride how can a trail be closed? If you know where the trails are and where they go are you to stay off just because not groomed? If you have tested lakes for ice and checked ice reports can you do a trail when you want?

imo you can ride lakes, crown land, but stay away from farmers fields, here we are surrounded by farm land and it is very important that we wait for the trails to open otherwise we loose access from landowners wich closes our fragile trail system

Typically, our trails don't open until early January and on rare occasions, late December if the snowfall warrants it. So far, doesn't look like we're getting a Christmas present this year.

Last season, we had very little snow but the groomers worked miracles and kept the trails open and fairly well groomed. Just some sleds, most notably, new turbo Cats, were overheating due to the lack of snow.

District 1, where Our club (Osgoode Carleton) is located, as well as Riverside and South Nation clubs are probably the closest to you. Lots of trails out here. Check out the map of the trails: http://ofsc.mapbase.ca/viewer/

Easiest way would be to cross at Ogdensburg NY (less busy border than Thousand Islands) and head to Morrisburg to park and ride from there. The MacIntosh Inn there is right on the Riverside Club's trail to start from.

Trails in northern NB officially open on the 15 of Dec but from what I hear they need one more good dump before the groomers will get out....was out last night close to home making sure this years mods were ok, felt good.

There is a lot more to it than that, especially here in Ontario.

In order for the OFSC to officially open the trails, lots of measures and checks have to be done first, like ensuring proper signage is in place, ensuring the land owners are ready for sleds to travel across their fields, ensure creeks, washouts, swamps etc have all frozen up etc.
The list goes on, but also keep in mind in today's world, where people don't like to take responsibility for their own actions and like to Sue, namely the OFSC, the trails are usually a little longer opening than what they use to be.

Now I know why my buddy is bugging me, asking if my sled is ready! We are just getting our first snow fall here, nothing is frozen though so it will just melt sadly..
