After watching some of the new sled videos, I have a ? How does one properly dig out a sled when stuck anywhere on a steep slope?
All the vids show chopper lifting it out or a dozen guys pulling on ropes from the top. What about just digging it out, turning it around and going back down the hill.
Is there a proper technique for doing this and not losing the sled down the hill??

if i need to go up the hill, just get a snobunje and pull it uphill a little, get moving and whip it over to sidehill up the hill

Chopper resucue has only happened a couple times. Usually Nutty spots!!

The vids usually show a slope that "appears mellow" I can assure you that the spots Chad from CR Racing, Shawn Hastings and Wes Little from Team Thunderstruck have been resuced from are less than mellow. Often there may be obstacles below that one can manouver around going up but not down.......plus the speed thing will cause huge carnage.
But to get unstuck on steep slope with good runout...........dig a shelf so the sled will sit flat, drop it onto that ledge, get geared up and cross your fingers the snow doesn't break, ride out and hopefully to safety.

I usually don't dig out when stuck on a slope because that usually means the powder is deep. Only when stuck boondocking do I pull the shovel out. If it's on a slope; I'll set the brake, get on the down hill side of the sled and give it a "controlled roll over" to prevent breakage.
Here's a pic of this happening to a REV and one of my RX-1mtn after doing a "contolled rollover". I have even witnessed Geno AKA mmwildman flip a 700 Polaris on its lid spin it 180 and flip back to the track pointing the opposite direction while boondocking.

With the rx I always have truble with flooding and oil leeking after controlled rolling. you must have the same problem but it would get you off the slope.

The flooding allways happened but oil was minimal. Now the oil isn't a problem with the SC kit but flooding requires removing the intercooler after a "controlled roll" since all four carbs will dump the fuel into the charge tube essentially choking off any air to the engine.
Funny thing is; now it takes a really huge "bonehead move" on my behalf to get it stuck
