How do you learn to ride in the mountains?

:yam: Like spray said it would be a good idea to go with someone who knows how to ride the rx1 mtn, I am also coming off of the ski-doo mach with mtn additions, heavy sled but alot less than the rx1, first time out it really didnt impress me, then I played with it a little and BINGO it fits like a glove , I actually do better on the rx1 than the mach < but you have to be careful as said before GAS IT< the front end has a tendency to nose dive But you can control it, the handle bars as said need improvement, as a good idea start slow in a open meadow or something and just get used to the machine first dont just go for it take small hills and then move on it worked for me I am a pretty good rider but it does take alot of strength from my 165lbs to move it around I love MY RX1 cant you tell :o| ;)! I cant wait for the MCall RIDE.

You learn by just going for it! The best way is to find someone that is a descent rider and follow them everywhere they go. Do everything they do. If they stand, you stand. If they move to one side you move to one side. If they pick their nose....... you tell them that is GROSS!! Then you do it too. :D

Come out for the McCall ride if Feb. We'll take good care of you. If we can put up with Gramps then we can handle you.

OK i was a newbie last year in McCall and will probably retain that tilte for a few years to come! riding the mountains is pure adrenaline rush and a whole lot of work but a blast ;)! One tip that stays with me besides all the good advise here is When you go "off the trail get off your a$$" it's amazing how much more control you have of the sled standing up than sitting on your butt! when you lean one way you have so much more leverage to help steer the sled. Adjusting your weight by standing on one side or the other is another thing you'll pick up on fast. Those two tips and remembering the throttle is your best friend are the best advise a rookie can give ya! Now let's talk about this years McCall trip ;)!

Main thing to Consider is Proper Equipment Transevers Shovel Probe etc Ride with MORE than 1 Buddy if you ride an RX1 if you get real stuck it is a big stuck for even 2 to pull it out. You will get stuck initially quite often. your sled is likely shorter track so you will have even more issues in VERY soft snow but Your sled will Manouver Nicer in the trees. It will Steer Better though.
These Sleds Are not That Bad in the mountains But Long Gental Traverce is its Weakest ability. They Sidehill Fine on A Steep Traverce once you Learn How to get it to Counter steer They side hill pretty good. Gentle long Sidehill Traverse is the Real enemy.

Plus Welt, you would have to remove the ECP kit and put on the Tupperware Power Kit. LOL

OK,Today was my first ride in the mountains, iwas riding a short track pol 800,(my 159 isnt finished yet).snow was fresh,we rode in a place called red meadow just up the road.now ive been riding in michigan for 30 some odd years but this is going to take some getting used to.i was suprised how well the 121 did, because when i did get her stuck i stepped off into armpit deep snow.frickin cool  .the other guy with me had crawl to me to help get unstuck.we did get 40 miles in.lot of fun.i knew i was in trouble when all i could see was about 6 inches of the trees above snow.wahoo LaLaLa
