Using some help I found on this forum, I thought I would change my oil and filter after 640 miles. This is not easy!! I have the pod and air box off and battery out. I can just barely see the oil filter thru the battery tray, but can't figure out how to get a hand or wrench on the filter, let alone turn it or find the clearance for removal. The help I used was from someone who gave directions for an Attak. He said he unbolted and removed the battery tray.
But, my tray is WELDED at the top to a a cross brace. Any help would sure be appreciated.
Also, I just checked my antifreeze and it is off the scale (concentrated) like others have reported. I had mentioned this to the dealer's tech and he said that was not the case.
This sled is a nightmare to work on. Sure hope it needs VERY little maintenance!

There are two 12 or 10 mm bolts that hold the battery tray in to the frame and you also have to disconnect the CDI at the front of the battery bracket. Once you have these removed and the fuses removed you have to just play around twisting the bracket to get it out of the way. Then all you need is a big pair of channel locks. Make sure you stuff several paper towels and rags under the filter because several ounces will spill into your belly pan. Make sure you have your oil drip pan underneath the bottom drain plug because what spills from the filter will drip out of the belly pan access area.

I also found it easier to remove the battery tray if you remove the starter wire and unplug the other connector that go over the top of the tray on the left (you standing infront of the sled). Here are some threads about oil change.

That second link that included pictures really was a big help. Instead of an almost impossible job it was just a tedious job. I was a little worried about pinching wires or forgetting something when putting the sled back together. Also took extra time to look things over: see how Yamaha put this thing together, check fastener tightness, etc. Now, I'm glad I did the oil and filter change instead of having the dealer do it. I feel more confident if I ever have to tear into things on the trail. Next time I change the filter it will be a LOT easier and quicker.
