I was riding with Vzoner and two other RX-1 buddies and rode 41 miles after the low fuel light came on. I made it to my destination with the bottom of my fuel tank visible when I looked down there. How many miles have you ran with the low fuel light on? By the way, what is the bottom of the fuel tank shaped like? Completely flat, tapered? I couldn't see, too dark down there, and no flashlight.

I rode 45 miles and over 40 several times and have yet to run out. In fairness I have a different tank. The bottom of the tank is flat.

I have a 9.? gallon aluminum tank. I had to switch tanks to accomodate the turbo.

I've never had my low fuel warning light come on. The sleds I ride with need fuel way before I do so I simply top off when they fill up :D

When my light comes on I can usually put in 7 to 7.5 gallons. But don't have to worry about it as the other guys I ride with need gas first.

I went about 30 miles after my light came on and still had a couple of gallons left in the tank when I filled up. If I was to guess I would say a person could get 50 miles after the light came on if they babied it and conserved gas and ran it dry.

I have riddin as much as 181 miles on one tank...

But most of the time i only get 13 mpg..

My brothers 583 skidoo only uses about 1 more gal of gas at fill up than me...

I have gone 30 miles after the light came on and usually have 3 gal of gas left..

Had to put in a touch over 9 gallons one time. Did the run from Gwinn Mi down to Arnold, light on the whole time, didn't really look at the milage though as I was more concerned about keeping RPM's around 7 or 8 grand.

It was a hair under 50 miles though.

I rode from the Bear Trap home with the light on the entire way (35 mi.). When I filled up at Midway, right at the front of my driveway, it only took 8.2 gal. Since I only get/avg. 15.1 mpg (clutch kit), I have to "assume" that means the light came on with around 4 gal. left in tank. Think that critter is REAL conservative???

I agree Buddah. Mine comes on about 80 miles which would be at about 5.5 gallons used at a little over 15 mpg. Seem a little early to be panicking the consumer to me. You spend the next 50 miles wondering when you are going to run out. At least until you have done it a few times and know better.

Does anyone have a fix for this? Theres got to be a way to get the gas light more accurate. I have heard that each bar=1 gallon of gas, but that cant be right according to all your results and what I have seen...BBY

If you're lucky enough to be near a gas station when the light comes on and top off the tank, then you obviously know how many gallons you have left. If you ride at a decent pace there is no reason why you should not get less than 15 mpg and then do the math. Meaning, if your low light comes on and you fill it with 7 gallons you have 3 left you should be able to ride 45 miles. Not all sleds have their lights come on at the same level. Yamaha probably won't recognize this as a problem. Just keep in mind how far you can ride after the light comes on.
