How fast have you had your RX-1???

I heard clutch alighnment makes a huge difference on top speed like what you are describing. You may want to look there. My 03 with 144 studs stock other than that 129 on the speedo lake light snow on ice. 123 on hard pack and 118 on trial packed snow

It's acted in this manner since Day One after break-in, which I followed meticulously. It's the inconsistency that drives me craziest. Holding the throttle wide-open on a groomed trail or a lake with a less than packed base, and the tach won't break 10,000 r's and the speedo will stop climbing at about 105. Correction: it will be at 10,000 when accelerating, but will back down to 9500 or 9600 when maxed out. Now, at other times, it will break 10,000 and stay above 10,000 and the speedo will climb to around 120 or higher. This usually occurs on harder packed surfaces. There is a noticeable difference in the pull from the machine as well. When it is running 9500 or so, the sled almost feels like it has a flat spot right at the top end...very similar to a two-stroke on the upper end. I've even taken my thumb off the throttle at 105 and jammed it down again hoping to cause a change. It bounces off 10,000 and back to 9500 and that irritating flat spot.

As for the drive axle bearing, that was replaced at 5900 miles (speedo quit). It now has 6600 miles on it. I haven't looked at the clutches. I will ask my dealer to do that this fall. I really don't want to modify it because, other than the problem above, I am very pleased with everything in regards to the drivetrain. I just want it to perform consistently and be as fast as it should be.

try some carb springs and jets from supertuner even if you dont do the whole kit the carb springs help the mid range etc you may want to try a clutch kit too I dont remember mine stock but it sounds like the clutching is so close that alittle more drag on the track is enough so it wont shift back and keep RPMS up You need the extra R's to make good peak HP I think 10300 is the magic number but check with supertuner

On 05 RX-1. I did my break in on the hard side. My rpm are consistent with the conditions. Most of the time It will top out 10200 - 10300 rpm. Top speed 125 - 128, stock...

I have NEVER broke 10,000.....Hopefully bender clutching will fix that! Will find out next season! Jay
