How many miles are to many?

Looking to purchase an apex was wondering how many miles are to many?

Overall condition and maintenance performed along the way are far more important than miles ridden up to a certain point……

Came across a 16 ltx with 11k miles.. is there anything in particular I should be looking out for?

You mean 16 XTX? With that kinda’ mileage some of the front end bushings and steering linkages have likely developed some slop and need replacing. If I was buying it I’d likely go through the driveline bearings end to end as well if they haven’t been done before. Four holers are easy on clutch parts, but they should be checked as well. The major thing to watch out for on 11+ sleds with higher mileage is the EXUP header cracking. It’s titanium, so pretty brittle, and REALLY expensive to replace. Make sure you know what you’re getting into with that. The Singleshot suspension with it’s single Fox air shock doesn’t get great reviews either.
They are a great sled, my ‘16 has almost 6k on it now and I love it, but I’ve also addressed all of the weak points mentioned.

Thank you for the response! Also looking at a 07 attack with 6k miles I think it’s a 144. Does the 144 length still work well on trail? I’m not 20 anymore and find I ride much differently these days.

i have a 2016 xtx with 6000 mi on it. i get the shocks refreshed every 2000 mi to save having to buy a new ones.

16 needs to have the up dated shock that came stock on the 2018 xtx for it to ride well or aftermarket. need to check the relay rods that run beside the shock as mine needed bushings at 4500 mi but i did not catch it in time and had to replace them.

exh, it most likely will need donuts and might need an exup cable or 2 based off of my 2011 with 24000 mi.

the 11-16 have eps (power steering) witch helps my bad shoulders on the long days a lot. 06-10 did not have eps.

if the 144 is a tipped rail extension, it will handle like a shorter sled. i prefer the tipped rail skid on my 11 vs the flat rail 16 as it takes longer to corner.

if i really want to push the pace i ride the 11 (when gf is not with us) but the 16 gets the job done. i just do not enjoy it as much.

attack would be a 136, probably ideal. my 06 is a 144, 07 is a 121, if nobody is on the 121, and we're only riding trails i take it every time. 136 will be a good balance of ride and traction. 121 really is too short by todays standards. and itrs not a lot of track for the power these sleds have... even by 2007 standards

My 146” built Mono has tipped rails but it still feels kinda long compared to the ‘11 XTX I had. There’s something about the way the 144” tipped rail CK skid mounted in the sled and it’s geometry that make them feel shorter than they are when it comes to the way that they handle.
I’m seriously considering taking my Mono back to a 137 for next season with a taller lugged track.

I’m primarily just a trail rider these days. A bigger lugged track wouldn’t be a big help. I’d mildly concerned about cooling issues on lean snow days. Is there a noticeable difference between the models with the exup valves and the ones without?

I also have a 136 m-10 in a 99 pantera 800. I feel that suspension is kind of wasted in that sled as I don’t ride it much. If it would be worth the hassle I could always pop that skid into whatever apex I finally decide on

Mileage means nothing on a Apex, We have a couple high mileage Apex's. I would say maybe 100,000 mileage might be to many!

Haha, not for the engine and clutches but the chassis needs just as much upkeep as any other sled and I'd say arguably more. The chaincase is good and driveline also as long as it's 09 and newer. The exhaust needs more upkeep than all other sleds. Stubbs comments here are spot-on.
