Guys just wondering how many miles i should put on my engine to break in the JE pistons before i hookup the charger again?
 
None, hook it up.
 
Are you sure? after putting about 5 grand into this thing and i want to make sure i'm not going to F@#$ it up again. Or do you mean just run like 5psi max for breakin.

I would heat cycle it a few times, do an oil change after about 30 miles and drive it.
Just take it easy for like 100 miles. Nothing to worry about if it was put back together as good as new!

My buddy has 12000 kms on his MCXpress turbo....and has never rode a stock apex!!!!!!!
 
Sounds good i think i will still ride it for a couple days without the sc belt and fuel box just to be safe seeing its not hard to hook up. The engine should be better than new lol. I had my block done je pistons carrollo rods and arp studs. I should also add i'm running 87(or less) pump with meth if that makes a difference. i figured i would need 3-400miles and a oil change before i run boost...
 
Ooo be careful on the 87 even meth will have a hard time quelching detonation. You cant get premium? At least look into Torco fuel additive that boosts octane.

How much boost will you be running?
 
I had my meth kit from dave at hurricane he told me no worries on 87 on 12-14psi and with all the sleds he has done i have no reason not to believe him he has ran over 400hp on 87. It would cost me $10 or more a gallon to get premium brought in by plane. even in may when i can drive out of here i will have a 3 1/2 hour drive and then a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride then a 1 hour drive to get premium so it still won't be cheap lol and thats easy to get compared to the race gas i burned last winter. One of the guys a few towns away ran a mcx apex at 12psi on 87 without meth for the last two years with no problems.
 
No reason to not trust Dave, I would be a wreck though! You can ship some torco fuel additive in much cheaper then barrel fuel.

mulot turbo blew his 9:1 SC sled on 87 within minutes of the first run at 12psi. Meth is much better at reducing detonation then lower compression though.

Let us know how it goes!
 
I am also running lower compression 10:1 if this thing runs good on 87 for the rest of the year more boost could be in the future. I would love to try 20+psi at 9:1 on 87 and it sounds like it can be done. Not much good to have a sled around here that has to run race gas learned that last year.

I ran a few rides with 87 , 9-1 pistons and 12 psi boost.

But at one time... I decided to check top speed on the field.... 1200-1300ft WOT.... then detonated to death... did this a few times since I did not knew what was really happening...

Pistons were all broken.... extreme detonation....
 
When i dyno'ed mine with Dave he told me that he could tune it with 87 or 91 on Meth, so before the dyno session i went to the gas station that i would be filling up at all the time and filled it with 91.
 
Mulot i would never use my sled on 87 without the meth. All last winter i never burned a drop of 87. i had a little 116 that i mixed with some premium also i had 112 and i burned a few tanks of av zero problems with the motor just everything else.
 
I ran one tank of fuel and hop the boost to 15 and then 18 and now 20 psi going out racing tommorow hope they get it right this time at the end of the line.
 
Blue Shadow hope you have that thing running for next months race on the rock want to see team blue up front this year. I doubt i will be there to watch i'll probably be out to sea by then. When i get something worth racing i'll be sure to be there, not much point to run that race at any less than 20psi. One of the guys here won a few years back he has a 2 smoke mod running well over 400hp i can see me lining up with that on my little baby lol but at least i can drive mine that 2 smoke is a lemon you can't ride it only bring it to the racetrack and it still blows up every year. :4STroke:
 
If there is one I will be there ,We have a race tommorow ,can t wait .Doing some testing today on 20 psi ,Man does this thing pull now.Running 86 grams at 10800 rpm.
