I bought a tekvest last year. I don't know why, I just bought one. I've never wrecked a sled or injured myself on a sled and I've been riding for 25 years. Maybe that's why I bought one. It's not a racing thing...It's the responsible thing.

Seriously guys I think if you ride within your limits and not push it the need for such protection is not warranted. I almost never ride too fast for the conditions I am riding in and if I find I am I slow down automatically. I dont need to go dart to dart to each corner then push my luck and riding experience to the hilt everytime I ride into or through a corner. I know some here that do go too fast in my books for any riding conditions. In other words they ride too fast and if you ride like that your gonna get hurt or hurt someone else sooner or later. Slow down and you dont need that kind of protection. I guess I ride like a grandpa my bad but I always get to where I am going and If I do get hurt I am willing to bet it will be because of someone going to damn fast that hit me!

Sled Dog--You just gave yourself Two reasons for wearing protection. To protect yourself from someone else.I ride like a granpa too because I am one. That's why I wear one.

Best safety device you can use is common sense. Thing is a lot of people don't have it to be able to use it. I believe a lot of people would slow down if they did not wear tek vests or the like. It gives them a I cant get hurt bad security blanket so they can push it harder and faster. Now is that safe riding for them, you or any one of your family that might meet these guys on the trail as they go into corners even faster now that there wearing a vest. They care less of the people they meet and only of themselves which is why they are buying a safety device for the accident they will inevitably cause. The vest which allows them to go faster than they normally would maybe even save their life. Well if they were not going that fast in the first place they would not be hurt at all. If you could buy a suit that would not allow you to get hurt in a crash while driving a vehicle would you drive faster? You bet you would! Same thing here only its on narrow wooded trails. So what good is that going to do to our sport which is coming under the microscope more and more these days?

You may be right but it's not abolut being right, it's about getting home. Don't be right and DEAD because you want to live in a Utopian World. When you put yourself in harms way, and believe me that is what you do every time you go riding, being RIGHT aint gonna save your life from what could have been a preventable death had you been wearing a vest.

I CHOOSE TO INCREASE MY CHANCES OF GETTING BACK TO MY FAMILY AND THAT IS THE REALITY OF WHY I CHOOSE TO WEAR MY VEST.

In this case your idealism could get you DEAD!!! :o| :o| :o|

I missed a corner last year (not going to fast) just follow someone else tracks off an enbankment.....Anyways over the bars I went, My back landed sqaure on a huge pointy rock (like a small beach ball)......with my vest I didn't even feel the rock till the next morning my body was sore but not broken.....If id didnt have a tekVest I'm sure I would have broken my back, maybe paralized or worst dead....I'm a big beliver

Do you have a CSS light on all your sleds? That is for safety too!

I like to ride aggressively and somtimes my skill level can't get my a&& out of situations my need for that rush gets me into. I also get tired by the end of the day and sometimes I just can't recover as quickly as I would otherwise be able to.

The primary reason that I wear my vest is that there are minor traumas that you are susceptible to that can be life threatening and wearing some form of protection can literally save your life. For example: an impact trauma to the chest at exactly the right time of the cardiac cycle can stop the heart like flipping off the switch of your bathroom light .....Game Over, unless you have a defibrillator nearby. Admittedly, this does not happen very frequently but it is a perfect example of a level of trauma that could be completely prevented just by wearing a vest. ( This happened to a highschool lacrosse player who was struck in the chest by a shot during a game ==> DEAD) There are a lot of other examples I could give especially involving injuries to blood vessels that can cause a person to bleed out and a lot of these could be prevented by wearing some form of protection.

I couldn't bear the thougth of not getting home to see my wife and kids because of a "minor" trauma and some really bad luck that could have been prevented simply by putting on a vest. Now I feel naked without it.

Well here you say that you like to ride aggressively and you admit that you get in out of control situations because of your need to speed or riding to fast for the conditions or your skill level. Then you say could not bear the thought of not getting home to see your wife and kids. My advise to you is slow down or your going to get hurt seriously wearing a vest or not.

No vest is better at saving your life than slowing down and being careful. Maybe ask your wife and kids that question. Just because you have a vest on you think you can push it to the limit of losing control! I think the vest might cause you more harm than good if that is the case. Your lack of respect for speed wieght and enertia will get you DEAD :ORC

Putting 240 smiles in one post is a waste of site resources. I got your point with only one.

ANYTHING you can do for protection whether it be from yourself or others is a good thing! I wear a TEK vest and I also use the CSS lights. If your budget can allow it why not it's far better to be safe than sorry. Rod I'll tell Carol to get you one for xmas since your just too damn stubborn lol. It only takes one accident to kill ya :ORC

Holy cow... this thread is fricken crazy LMAO. Tek Vest all way baby. Limits, safe driving....LOL, how about some drunk driver crossing the center line in your car and now he owns a sled the he nails you on your sled....

Some peoples heads are harder then hell, they wont get hurt, we shouldn't be arguing and....

You do what ever you want on your sled, wear whatever you want, was it necessarily to try and discourage users from being safe??? Because me just reading this post gets that idea, why bother if your careful....

On the other hand just because you wear a tek vest doesn't mean you don't have to drive safe and you can drive reckless.
