How much play should the brake disc have?

I had the same thing happen to my 03 Viper after 3500 miles on the oem belt. Belt looked ok, but after changing the belt, the noise went away and never came back.

I've been through a bunch of yami belts, I think I have 6-7 delaminated ones in the garage. I've been running Ultimax belts and they last a long time, I did try changing the belt out and that didn't change anything. I was hoping that was the problem. I was thinking today that maybe the track was slipping so I wanted to tighten it a bit, I just ordered the part I broke...

But your track won't slip at low speeds. Only under acceleration and especially when you're accelerating in powder. IMO - I wouldn't tighten the track even if you can put 3 fingers between the track and the rail at the lowest point.

Can you move the brake disc up and down or side to side? I ask because maybe you have bad jackshaft chaincase bearing(s)?

At low speeds all I have is a clunking sound that sounds like its coming from the gearbox-brake area. The brake disc moves on the shaft, the shaft is solid.

What happens if you lightly apply the brake while the sled is moving forward?

If you have the sled on a stand will it still make the noise?

I would bet heavily on the belt flat spot. I have had it happen and two buddies on the trail changes same complaint went away

Port parts had a two for $100 for the 8dn belts pre Christmas I figure I will never need one now that I have new back ups

It sure does sound like a belt issue but he says he's tried a different belt.

Definitely not the belt, ive tried two different ones. And yeah it makes the noise when on the lift. And I haven't tried riding the brakes. Once I get the track tensioner replaced I will try that.

Is the noise random or have a pulse/rhythm or consistency to it? Check for broken or bent track clip(s0. (?) Broken suspension part thats hard to see. (?)

Still haven't torn into the gearbox, I'm afraid I will screw something up taking it apart lol. However I do have the skid out and everything looks correct under the sled. The drivers look fine all track clips are present and accounted for. I did have 6 wheels with bad bearings. Once my tensioner bolt shows up and I get the skid back in I will post an update on any further findings.

Seems like thats common, abundance of idiots doing jobs they aren't suited for... who hires these people? oh wait, probably another family owned shop.

an old post, but when i took my nytro apart i found the disc brake that sits on the shaft is also riding on a 1/4 keyway that sits inside the shaft. my keyway was VERY worn down causing a ton of play. its easy to take the brake assembly off and check, the original keyway they used looks like it was a very soft metal.
