yup, first ride out this year and one accident. As bulletproof as my nytro has been, a 10" birch will always win in a punching match. Can anyone who has repaired a vector style chassis give some input on price? I am insured with a $500 deductible, but I would like to know anyway.
On to the pics
I know this: Windshield, cowl, belly pan, front plastic, the harpoon, the metal bracket that holds the TORS switch is broke, the TORS itself was severed. No frame and steering damage. Airbox back is fine...
Thanks for the help.

Not sure without looking at it first hand, but big $$$... I would say it could easily run $2000.00 + or -...
Most of the time there is hidden damage you won't find until you take it apart..
As long as you are OK, that's the main thing..

If you are looking for an insurance payout. That sled is totalled. Just the list you had its over $2000 in parts and labor. (front bumper, subframe for bumper....list goes on from what it looks like) Does it still run? Cus that is costly if it took out the brains.....
Now that being said, between your payout and selling the sled you can get yourself a new one. Were you from and how much????

It doesnt run because of that stupid little throttle override sensor in the front of the machine. Everything behind the frame rail was untouched, and all of the front suspension parts are fine. Do you really think it's totalled???? I mean, the sled is srill worth around 5500. Even if there is $3,000 damage, it still would save the ins company 2500 or so... Am I right in thinking this? fyi, I am located in New Hampshire

I don't think thats a TORS up front. If it's the same as the RX-1 your tors goes from the throttle lever to the carbs right next to the bolt for the battery bracket on the frame. I am pretty sure what you smashed up in the nose is actually the voltage regulator.
The CDI box is fairly safe on the back side of where the sway bar crosses through the bulk head so it should be ok.

If your insrance company writes it off buy it back for a good price and part it out , between the two you can make enough to replace it no problem......

I wouldn't tell the insurance company. You do and because its your fault (a birch tree is NEVER at fault) suddenly your premium goes through the roof and will cost you way more in the long run than buying all new pieces to fix it out of your pocket.
Damage is little more than negligible. Almost all cosmetic.
Rewire those bits in the nose (regulator and rectifier assembly) and it should still run like new. Bend/weld as much of the rest back into shape as you can -- heat will help you restore plastic parts to original shape (or very close to it), shouldn't cost anything to fix up except for the HOOD, which can be replaced for less than the insurance deductible (look for a used or aftermarket hood for any RX03-05 or RS).... or just hook a bungee cord around it and call it good.
--- remember that this machine is still FINE, just uglied up a little, and a little TLC goes a LONG way in fixing this kind of problem. Stay away from the insurance company -- they'll rape you -- thats their business. Also stay away from the dealer if you can, this is really simple stuff to fix, but very time consuming and expensive for the impatient.

totalled
YOUr sled would probably be totalled in the insurance companies eyes.Anything over 50% of value is normally a totall. As for insurance premiums that depands on the company.Ive personally totalled out 3 sleds in 5 years and never had insuance premium increase. If your picky about your sled I wouldnt half #*$&@ put it back together, thats what insuance is for.just my .02.Shane

It almost looks like its just the front plastic, hood, bumper and a few other things. As long as the aluminum bulkhead is ok, and same with ur shocks, shock mounts, and a-arms, then you might not be that bad...
If the list of things to fix is mostly cosmetic, then it would definately be worth fixing.
Parting it out does result in a good pay off, but its sometimes hard to do and there is alot of hassle, especialy if you dont have lots of time on hand.

oops, sorry about that. I was not aware. Should be fixed now.
As for the sled, I made the decision to take it to the dealer and have my insurance co make the important decisions. I really do like the sled and will buy it back if totalled. I just don't have the time to fix it myself especially wehn we have better than normal snow to ride this year. If it's repairable, I can get it back by the weekend. If it's totalled, well lets just say I brought my trailer to work juuust in case.
FYI, my insurance agent is a riding buddy and he was with me when it happened. Because I have never had an insurance claim previously, my premiums won't go up at all. He's confirmed this to me.
Thanks a lot for al the advice, all of it was good.

Update- Apparently the front bulkhead is damaged which means the engine bay needs to be cleaned out. 40 hours of labor and parts came up to be $4969.00. I never would have guessed there was that much damage by looking at it...
Pretty sure it'll be totalled if the insurance guy agrees with the estimate.
crap.
