I have been thinking about replacing the steel front upper A arms on my 03 RX-1M with the aluminum ones from the 04 and 05 model. How much weight would that save? Is it worth considering? The reason I'd like to change them is as much about minimizing the chance of a broken bulkhead if I hit something just right as it is about weight savings. I think the aluminum A arms were justified by Yamaha more for their ability to act a sacrifical lamb dampening any impact to the bulhead during an impact than for the actual weight savings they provided.
Also is it worth ordering a magnesium chain case cover? I can't imagine that just the cover alone is worth the money or the trouble of swapping it out with the aluminum 03 stock cover.
What are your thoughts? Thanks.

theres better ways to cut weight. Where do you ride? The nicest, cheapest one I have found was cutting off the muffler and running 2 little 'stingers' that dump right over the track. When you hit powder, the snow muffles the sound almost completely, all you hear is the track winding out.

The little weight you save isnt worth the cost to upgrade to the parts you seek..
The new caliper and rotor are expensive and so is magnisum valvecover..

I tend to do most types of riding. I'd break it down to 50% trail, 30%boondocking, 10% hillclimbing and 10% drag racing.
I have bent my "ski spindles' several time just doing what I would consider "normal" riding. I have straightened all but one of the spindles in my arbor press. It just makes me wonder how close I have actually come to cracking and having to replace the bulkhead?
I am also considering replacing my tunnel extension with a MPI or Hartman for weight savings purposes.
Thanks. Frosty
