Hey Boys,

I'm looking at what all needs to be done to make my 03 RX-1 work with some mountain mods. I can buy a 151" skid right awya and I'm sure the gearing isn't too tough, but what else should I be looking at?

The machine has an ECP fiter kit, running 165 mains, gutted stock exhaust and Dalton clutch kit.

Do I need to drop suspension mounts? Move coolers? etc...

Any help would be great...I plan to have the sled out to Revelstoke for next December....so we have some time for your thoughts!! :yam:

put on a turbo. :-o

The best mod possible on the stock engine is the holz skid it relay finds traction even with the smallish 151 '' track and looses lots of weight. A tunnel extension is needed. Extrovert drivers so you can run the track loose. Fore sure loose the sway bar, and the rider forward from wild-child is nice.
I would gear down and try your clutching may need to tweak it a bit.
That should be a good start the list goes on but dont forget the more weight you can shed of here the more fun you will have with here.

I didnt like the filterkit in the mountains as it make the engine more finikywith altitude and temperature.

Make sure the carbs have the updated flost blowls . If you are going to change the track strongly recomend 16X159 or 162 track. The 16 makes a big differenc on big powder days. Simmons skis or similar powder ski. Stronger springs or new front shocks with high spring rate without sway bar! I have holz skid with turbo with minumal transfer to keep the front end down while climbing, it is great!

I'm tryin to keep this somewhat on the cheap side. I have an option to buy a stock 151" skid out of an 03 rx-1 MTN, so that was where I was headed.

I'm not looking to make this a permanent change, just for the odd 3-4 day trip. When you consider the rental fee's it's cheapier to switch some parts out. Maybe it's too tough to make it MTN worthy on a dime

I really just need the extension piece, not the bumper and nuts and bolts. But what I want to know is what heeds to be done....maybe nobody has done this?

A stock Rx1MT is nor realy mountain worthy anyway!!!!
It does take a bit more than to go to the rx 1 MT specs to make your sled fun in the mountains.

I agree that Yamaha seemed to do everything that they could to keep the 03 RX1M from being a mountain sled, especially the skid and skis. I would be careful about using the proaction and stock skis. In deep powder they are not very fun.

Don't but that skid try to find a cat skid like alot of these guy did it will ride better, better track approach and a lot lighter.

like said, the 03 suspension sucks. The best stock skid that yamaha has used is the 05 rx1 and current apex skid. they actually work very well. A 153 M7 suspension can be had for around 400 bucks if you look around.
