I just got some saddle bags for my Apex. They fit real nice ;)! . (GEARS sub Zero bags, thanks for the rec Sleddheadd) I am worried about scuffing the surface of the exhaust cover with these. What have others tried ?

I am thinking about some masking tape before the trip then peel off after if it does not burn on.

Any experience or thoughts?

If you have already removed the Yamaha from the covers, maybe the 3M clear shield. If not maybe the blue painters tape. I used the Choko's last year, they worked good, had a soft neoprene panel on the back were they contacted the covers. They worked good until I missed one of the rear straps when mounting them back on at 5:00am in the dark. 200 miles later and the covers were scuffed, I touched them up but you can still see were it happend. :o|

Well could you cut some fleece and 3m glue those to the saddle bags? worked on a road bike setup on my zx11 but don't know if you would get ice build up and cause more damage

I have already drilled the holes and mounted them. I like the bags they are very secure. Should work fine, match sled great, balck and grey. I think I will use the painters masking tape for my anal concern on scuffs.

I am a little disappointed that my Yamaha shop did not show me the bag you did. I would might went with that.

Well, Swiss sledder we will see how they work in January. ;)! :jump:

We did a back pack last year, and My friend had the Yamaha bags. The main thing I didn't like about them was that the C.G. of the weight was so high. Definently no worries about scuffing up the covers with them though. The capacity was less with the Yamaha ones vs. the Choko ones I had. How much are the side covers? Maybe just have a back pack set, Ebay?

i think i'm gonna go on a trip also, i might just have to pick up one of those saddle bag's from yamaha, they look really nice. i've come to the conclusion or reality that jeff's just not going to do it this year, i'm just lost! really lost!

they will not scuff youre covers, mark. do not worry about that. we put 1100 miles on last year and they never hurt her sled.I have the yamaha bags and my wife has the gears. for those that say to scrap the gears... you have never used them! I will have my yamaha bags for sale soon and I will be replacing them with the gears zero-b. these are great bags! plenty of room and they are waterproof. You really shouldn't knock them if you have never tried them!
Everything I have is yamaha. sleds, jackets, bibs, boots, bags underwear, sandals, you name it! I support my brand but I must say, these gear bags are nice!

Thanks Mark , HEY aren't you going on a trip as well??

I really liked the way the bags fit on the sled and the black and sliver gray was great.

Gerbie I feel the same.

You asked so here goes.

Take them back and order these:

Great fit, very secure, enough of room for 3-4 days and no worries about the covers. Come in all black, red/black or blue/black.

I bought these and returned them the next day. I know others have said as you have but I don't know how you ever fit 3 to 4 days worth of stuff in them. Maybe I over pack on trips but one pair of jeans and a pair of heavy socks filled one side and at that point I knew they would not carry all I need.

For me they would possibly be good for a single overnighter.

I attached some fleece to the bags were they contact the covers.
