How to stop the twitchyness on a 08 Nytro FX?

Hi Guys i have a 08 Nytro the only word i can use is twitchy,while going down the trails the front end is all over the trail its my wifes sled and i rode it and its terrible please any help with this is greatley appreciated !!!!

I recall that a lot of 08 riders modded their upper balljoint to reduce the caster?camber? of the spindle to reduce the twitchiness. Try a search on "MOD" and "BALLJOINT" in the Nytro forum section.

I think there was a bulletin from Yamaha to replace the sloppy bushings/balljoints as well. Have you taken it your Dealer to see if this was/will be done?

Where are your front shocks in relation to the A arms? They should be somewhat centered between the arms. If not, the sub frame could be tweaked and may all be warranteed.
 
I put new skis on, twitchyness GONE. Also stears easier and the front end goes where I put it. Turning radius has improved as well. Over all the best money I have spent on the sled yet.
 
09 spindles at a minimum, they have 1in of trail. polaris has been doing this for years, uses direction and weight of sled to keep the sled going straight.
 
My 08 nytro was un rideable when I first got it. now i can hold the bars with one hand at any speed. no bs. heres what I did 1) woddys duallys that i grinded the bump (weld) down so they wont hook on any thing. 2) the famous ball joint mod( which I do for other people almost every day) 3) upgraded the floats to float 2s (by far the best thing I did) 4) last but not least the single most effective darting removing thing that if I did this first I may have not done all the other stuff. (don't laugh) from the factory the f@#$%^g skis were toed in 2" I spent two hours perfecting the alignment to 1/2" toed out. and that made the sled awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no sh&t..........................B


and I left out that I flipped the ski rubbers...........B
 
I agree, struggled with mine all last season. First thing I did this year was checked the skis, toed in 1.5". Put 1/2" toe out and what a difference that made.

Mine was out almost that much but I checked it before it ever hit the snow because I was sure my dealer didn't do it. On the TY ride, when I bent the left lower, the toe went to around 1" in. Holy CRAP on a groomed trail. Adjusted it 'by eye' and made all the difference. put another 100 miles on that week-end with the spindle near vertical.

Check the TOE and get back to us.

Checking the toe couldn't have been easy while out on the trails. How did you do get at and loosen the inner locknut for the tie rod ends? Did you use the tools in your kit? In the garage, I had to bend a 14mm wrench 90 degrees to access the locknut from the side.

I have little hands. take out the ecm and the tool box. and be patient. you can only turn the nut 1/16th of a turn at first spin the wrench and repeat. or drop the belly pan and that should give you more room .... no matter how long it takes it's totally worth it. I can fly down the lake at 90 with one hand now before I was afraid to do 50. any questions it's cool to pm me. Friday through Monday I'll be riding and we have no internet in the Adirondacks where we ride. Good luck and once setup you wont believe the difference. hey by the way the service manual says to do it one way but my friend seasoned sled mechanic says to do it differently. he says to run a straight edge along the track since that is what propells the sled straight and measure from there. after you do this then use the service manual method to double check. also while turning the tie rods keep checking the handlebars because as you turn the tie rod bars the handlebars also turn. so if you can have someone hold them for you it will take less time.. I did it in the garage....................good luck..............................B
