This is my 06 Attak with just under 14,000 miles. Its on the trailer, awaiting winter. I like to get it ready in the spring, so when winter comes its turn-key and go! Didn't turn out that way....

I store it on trailer and noticed before I covered it that there was a drop of antifreeze on the floor....and then noticed it on the support for the skid. I cleaned it up but could find no wetness. A week later I check again and its wet. So it obvously is leaking...Very slightly but a leak is a leak. Its on the right side and its leaking where the rust is....

My question is how hard of a job is this to do? I think the support rubbed the heat exchanger until a pin hole formed. I know I need to take the support off...would it be easier to take the entire heat exchanger off? I have a welder friend who can weld it. He's very skilled so that is not an issue. What about the rivets? Can I get at them all with a grinder to remove them? I have access to a air rivet gun...do I need the Yamaha rivets that are .95 a piece or should I use something else? Any suggestions, tips would be helpful.

I'm pretty discouraged right now. I thought I was done with maintenance on this sled and I have to rip it apart again! I'll wait till fall but my OCD is not happy!

Funny thing is I let the sled run in the garage until the radiator fan came on and no leak. This was before the skid went in. It must have busted when I installed the skid.

Both of my apexs did that it took a weekend to do. I would say about 3 hours of work. I did not us the yamaha rivets i just got some harden steel ones and they work great.I took the entire heat exchanger off just cut the rivets off and it comes off.

Thanks! What did you use to cut the rivets off? I've used a air grinder in the past and that worked well but I worry about some of them being in places the grinder can't reach.

Did you get them welded or replace? I think they are about $230.00.

There is quite a few cases of this exact leak occuring in the exact spot,

Its actually caused by the flexing of the heat exchangers when the rider stands on the tunnel a certain way overtime, resulting in tiny crack forming, and leaking. You can feel better that it wasnt your install that made it happen.
