How many are not using the stud and nut on that middle hard to get a bolt in or out on the exhaust flange? Is a bolt even needed there?

The td mufflers dont include the area for the bolt and no leaks. The precision, viney fab and stock exhaust do not leak if you do not use the "difficult"bolt. I never have on any of the mentioned mufflers and zero leaks. The hurricane muffler will leak without using all mounting holes. That has been my experience anyway.

Has a lot to do with thickness of flange and how flat they are on the muffler

I always have bolt there. I changed T50 torx to M8 x 1.25 bolt there. Then, I slot the flange on muffler so I can leave the bolt in which also allows steel gasket to hang on that bolt when muffler is off.
I've seen many sleds with those bolts over-torqued (which can, and does sometimes bend muffler flange so it's no longer flat). Manual says tighten to 9 ft.lbs in criss-cross pattern, then final torque to 18 ft. lbs.

Had the hurricane muffler on for a few years now. Used the bolt the first time and that was it. No issues
