Hyfax wear on RS Venture..

Mine were also paper thin in 300 miles. I am also used to going 4,000 miles on brand S in the conditions I was riding. If we need extra wheels to ride a trail sled on groomed trails why are they not on from new ? According to Yamaha this is not a problem, we are not riding in enough snow. Love the 4 stroke but this is unacceptable ! Daily slider changes on tour. Back to brand S next year unless they resolve this major issue. Makes the clutch issue seem minor.

Yamaha keeps the tracks tight and that wears Hyfax.

???? I did cut and open the closed windows and it was not ok for me. I changed (on my RX) the track for a predator. The feeling is smoother, quieter and faster. But there is still a tendancy for the slides to stick. As for the Ripsaw, I had to bring in the skid snow with my feet for the first 10 miles 'cause it was sticky and it smelled. At the end of the day, after high speed run on hard pack groomed trail, I noticed hyfax dust at the rear of the skid, the skid rear arm was black of slide dust! After almost 40 years of snowmobiling, I never experienced something like that. Snow conditions are not good this year, but my pals on other brands are not affected like we are, my friends and I(on both RX and Vector) with 05 Yamahas. I would like to understand...

A friend and i both have Vector's, Both had fast wear at first then slowed after that and then we added a set of marginal snow wheel's in the rear of skid where the wear is the greatest and have not had a hot slide since. I am assuming the Venture will need two set's. If you put them on make sure you have room for suspendtion travel so your upper wheel's don't hit. Once you get the pressure off of the bad area the problem will be gone. If you have any other question's, Post them and i will try to help. kviper

Good to know that I'm not alone with this problem..

Excellent site for a number of reasons, mainly that the number of RS's sold here in total is probably less than one dealer puts out in a month in the US (or Canada for that matter).

I have added another 150 kilometres on the sled since my last post, and the wear has kind of stagnated, but I have to check them often since there is only 1mm of wear left on them.. Would not want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with metal grinding against metal..

However; I am expecting the dealer to fix this problem for me;
after investing a serious amount of money ($23000 in Norway) for a new sled, I would expect the slides to last longer than 2 tanks of gas!! I know this is a wear item, but there is a difference between wear and a 20000 dollar slide eating machine

Suddenly had a new complaint against the Venture btw; the locking pin for the adjustment cam suddenly disappeared. Ahem. Not a surprise really, didn't look like the smartest piece of engineering on the sled.

BUT, other than these complaints I absolutely love the sled

I don't understand why you guys are having problems. Where are riding?

The guys I ride with we have two Rages over 800 miles on both, with original Hyfax and no to very little wear. Also (3) 04' warriors 1 with original Hyfax and 2 who just changed to new ones. These guys do 3000 to 4000 miles a year.

I don't get it?

And for those who want to go to brad S and enjoy sitting on the side of the trail, I'll tow you in! ;)!

RSRAGER, you have the ProAction skid in that sled, the sleds showing the slider wear issues have the new skids.

All,

I have installed a fourth wheel kit and a set of marginal snow wheels on my Vector. This has helped quite a bit with the wear.

I made these changes at 2000km and I changed the slides while I was at it due to the new rear steup. The old slides had 2.5mm of wear left in the worst spot.

I am now at 3600km and my slides are no more that 50% worn in the worst location (4 mm remaining).
