Hi!
I'm pretty new on this forum (which I have to say is GREAT ), and so far I have been leeching information from other threads.
I got my Venture in january and I'm very impressed with the sled in general. Got a chance to test it in some 1,5 metre (5 feet) of powder today, and to my surprise it tackled it really well.. Never thought I could get that much fun out of a touring sled
Now to the thing I'm a bit worried about.. I have appx 350 kilometres on the sled and the hyfax wear is starting to worry me quite a bit. It is down to a fraction of hitting the wear indicators, worst on the throttle side to the back. Took it by my dealer (in Norway) and he said that Yamaha (Norway) had heard of several cases of hyfax wear, but they wouldn't do anything about it yet.. Wait and see if it stops wearing seems to be the agenda.
It should be noted that I haven't been riding in anything near questionable snow conditions..
Anybody had experience with dealers and policy regarding this?
In my opinion they should last waaaaaaaaay longer than this..
Other than that and the diesel rattle:

It is a real problem or all I know with 05 Yamahas, including me with Vector and Rx-1. It is worst on the Veture. Not enough wheels and longer slides melting. I tried antiwear pads on my rx and it does not work. I will try to open the closed windows and see I am sure Yamaha is aware of the problem but they do nothing as I know.

I have used 2 sets in 450 miles on a Vector. It is a very big problem. All riding was done on groomed trails in Quebec.I talked to a dealer there, and he said average is 200 miles per set unless you ride in all fresh powder. He said Yamaha has not come up with a fix yet. How could they sell us something that will not go 300 miles on sliders. Does anyone have a fix or suggestions ?

hi folks
Hi-fax wear is the major issue on the RSVenture here in quebec by now. We got hard trails conditions and the venture hi-fax just not handle it ...Yamaha claims thats because of poor snow condition but other brands snowmobiles rides without problems with us and thier hy-fax stay cool and mine litterally melt..... every rsventure on our forum experiment the problem and also few on vectors and warrior. Yamaha just ignore the problem at this time.... very bad...
What's happen???? On the rsventure, we have 27" between the central and the rear wheels without more wheels. It is there that you will get the worst wear, more accentuate at the rear.... Also, the Ripsaw design is snow restrictive by having 1 of thirth hole not open... it mean 1\3 less snow entry for lube and mean that you have a 4.5" rubber patch that rubbing on your slides between your metal clips at 7.5". Look closely at this rubber patch and you will see the wear in rubber..... finally, the quality of the 2005 hi-fax that are larger than before seems cheap...
What i did by now was open all tracks hole and adding a set of polaris wheel wich are bigger than yamaha one. It improve by about 70% the durability but it can be better... my first set made 800kms . My actual set have 2200km and is about 1\3 wear but i have to be careful and get snow from the side of the trail sometimes and reduce my speed in hard condition.
I am actually in process of clipping all the track. I will also add an other set of polaris wheel. Combining that to a sligtly better hi-fax quality will, i hope , get rid of this issue. Those who clip the track claim an improvement on the gaz mileage...too early to be sure....
i will keep you inform.

My Rs venture has had 1 hyfax meltdown so far at 350 mi. If I keep having the prob I will go to Hyperfax sliders as I had excellent luck with them on my last two longtracks! They cost 150 dollars or so but I put 6000 miles on a set with no meltdown or sticking at all!

I put my first 600 miles on my RX-1 this week, with Anti Wear pads installed from the beginning and the hyfax look like new. No visible wear. All the mileage was in Quebec, and the heads of the wear pads are not black and covered with plastic, they are shiny and polished from riding on the sliders.

QCRider, how tight do you run your track ?

After about 400 miles I did the first adjustment. I would say that it is about 1 1/2 inches from the skid with a 20 pound weight pulling on it.
RS Venture Slide wear
I recently purchased an 05 RS Venture I only have 75 miles so far and I already see wear. I was going to purchase an extra set of Slides to have on hand before we go on our next trip. I was looking at purchasing a set of Grapite ones from one of the After Market Suppliers as I have had good results on some of my other Sleds. They do not list the 05 RS Venture. Does anyone know if the 05 RS Venture uses the same HiFax/Slide as the 04 Venture or RX Warrior or is it a different style completely.
I also experienced the Code 84 problem at around 15 miles.
Thanks

On my 05 RS/Venture I had to replace my first set at 1800 miles, mostly riding in good snow condtions. They wore out in the same spot people have been talking about (just in front of the rear axle on the skid).
I now have over 2700 miles on the sled and the second set seems to be wearing at the same rate. Not sure what I am going to do, but I know I have to do something because changing Hy Fax three to four times a year won't cut if for me.
I run my track very loose and you can still feel the drag from the slides to the Ripsaw track even in a foot of powder!

I have 1400km on my first set .They wore fast at first but seem to have stoped. I thought last week was it for them but after another 200km still look the same . I have a set of graphite ones for next time .

Marginal Snow Wheels
I have 750 miles on my 05' and no real wear yet. I've riden hard and in various condions. I put a set of marginal snow wheels on anticipating "marginal snow" in Northen Wisc next week. Yamaha keeps the tracks tight and that wears Hyfax. I also added a rear heat exchanger for thos times when conditions are less than perfect! Did I mention marginal snow whells; they are 65.00 and are a Yamaha add-on!
Fit perfect!

So, when you took them off, how much was left? Did you cut through them at the thin point and measure for future reference? I hear from almost everybody on this site that they wear quickly at first and then seem to go forever. I think that many people see the quick wear and change them before they need to be changed.

QC Rider, both right and left sides near the very rear were worn almost completely thru. I was able to push a screw driver right thru the thin film that was left with little effort after I took them off. This was in a 2 to 4 inch area from the very rear, going forward. I am usually riding on good snow conditions when I ride. I have gotten up to 6000 miles on a set of slides on my Ski Doo Grand Touring, so this wear that I am seeing is something I am not used to.
