Just replaced the hyfax on a 2009 Apex LTX GT after 1700 miles. 95% of riding was on trails. The wear pattern was a bit odd in that the front and back of each slide was not bad. However, the middle was worn right down. Is that normal or does it indicate another issue? My guess is that it indicates a need for another set of wheels.
Just checking to hear what others have experienced.
Thanks.

it might be a function of the stock suspension settings - my sons rs nytro wore the centers pretty bad to the point we put low snow wheels in the centers, and once we dialed the suspenions in (softened front and back) we took the low snow wheels off and never saw the center wear again. I noticed a loose run track would wear the centers off faster as well.

This was off of my Vector after about 3,000 miles. You can see how it wore in front and behind the wheel. The wear was considerable at first then slowed considerably the last 2000 miles. I would have ran them longer but had to remove the skid to repair cracked welds so it was a good time to change them. I think some of these are being replaced way to soon.
I believe the hyfax wear slows because the aluminum rail acts as a heat sink and removes the heat more efficiently as the hyfax thins. This subject has been discussed many times.

Seems to be normal wear. I get the same. I installed wheel kits both front and middle and it still wears. Some say it stops at that point and will give more miles but I just change them out every year. Cheap enough. I only put on about 1500 to 2000 miles a year though.

I have the same wear pattern on my 07 Attak. However, they quickly wear down at this point and then stop.lornoh said:JThe wear pattern was a bit odd in that the front and back of each slide was not bad. However, the middle was worn right down. Is that normal or does it indicate another issue?

I have a 2006 RTX with 9600 miles on it and have used several sets of sliders. In my opinion, the excessive wear is inherent to the design of the mono rear suspension because by design, the rails "follow" the terrain more closely than a standart two shock suspension. This suspension will rock forward and backward as it goes over bumps and therefore more contact is made with the snow. Another way of saying this is that as the front of the rail is pushed up into the tunnel, it forces extra pressure down on the rear of the rail. This is because of the way the mono shock is mounted. It does not connect directly to the sled on either end, it mounts to both the front and rear swingarms, causing them to transfer load back and forth between each other. The good part of this that this type of suspension gave a softer, cushy ride than most standard setups, the bad part is faster slider wear and for the agressive rider, it will not jump well or pop wheelies well. Extra wheels in the suspension are not a perfect answer. They can only carry weight where they are located, they twist the rail as the slider wears and ultimately cause rail breakage. The sliders just wear more than other sleds, get used to changingthem often and enjoy the many positives of your ride!! Good Luck!!
