I was inspecting the hyfax on m wife's 2007 Rage (after replacing the cam chain tensioner) and I noticed significant wear only in front of the front idlers. It looks like it has worn down to 1/8" or slightly less. Does this need replacing already? The sled has about 300 miles estimated on these slides. This is a 136" track.

I am thinking about adding the little marginal snow wheel kit where this wear is....if they will fit...there is that rubber bumper possibly in the way. What do you guys think?

Looks like they're wearing closer to the idler wheel...I'd through a larger wheel in tha outside position. Kimpex pro idlers are 5.25" and $16 from MFG Supply, I put them on the outside of my 07 Nytro without any mods.

I added the Yamaha small wheel kit to mine last year after reading all the stories about how the hyfax wears. I did this before I even rode it. Well I have 1600 miles on it and the front of mine only are down about 1/16" compared to new. I do have snow scratchers that I used when needed. I also rode in the U.P. all of last year so the snow was pretty good. I also have a set of the DuPont sliders waiting when the originals wear out.

You can't put the wheel kit where the rails start to curve up front. I had this problem on my 08 nitro. I put them as close as I could up front but they ended up breaking off. I tightened the limiter strap up and that made a big difference on wear up front.

Well that sucks...I already ordered the small wheel kit ($80) saturday.

It said in the yamaha catalog it was for a 2005 to 2007 Rage...

I guess it depends on the wheel kit. I had they new style nitro. the kit I had rests on the rails and they are flat. so the problem is when the rails start to curve the the brackets that attach the wheels won't sit properly.

I'm not sure if the skids are the same/similar but I mounted mine just behind those bumpers, and so far so good.

Also, measure your hyfax and if it is thicker than 10mm's then you still have some wear left before they need replacing.
Like most on here say, the slides will wear fast to a certain point, then they stop.

I've got a small kit at the bend like Irv has and after 1800 miles of high speed UP trails not a problem. I also have a pair on the rear of my skid where wear was showing up. Use red loctite when tightening the bolt!!

Mine are mounted like Irv and RSVECTORFREAK and not one issue yet and I don't really expect any either.

check your current wheels for wear (size), if they need replaced go with a little larger wheel.

Somebody alluded to the wear issue being commented on here. Basically that area will wear down very fast......right to the wear line......and then won't change significantly for several thousand miles. As somebody else mentioned, as long as the slider fills the gap on a 10mm wrench, you're good to go.

I drilled a used hyfax to see how much material was remaining when worn to the wear bar (10mm). There was still approximately 1/8" remaining.

My first set went in no time at all.
I told the dealer to slacken off the track tension and the mechanic said, NO, thats what Yamaha calls for.
I slackened it off myself and so far there is very little wear.
Many here from what I have read, consider Yamahas tension specs to be too tight.

PS Its warm today but the long range forecast, next 2 weeks, shows snow almost every day

Agreed, I think mine is slackened off to 1-1/2"inches of free sag in the middle and I get zero ratcheting.
I may even try a bit more? (1-3/4 to 2")
