How milage should I get out of the OEM hyfax on a warrior? I did about 2300 miles last year and I can see a good bit of wear at the bend.
It also looks like the pervious owner let it go a little long. Some wear on the rail. Not bad but it there.

I got 2500 on my last set.... I have small wheel kit at the curve though to help out. It seems the front of the skid takes it the worst.

you did not bad. i had to change mine at 500km because it wore past at the bend. put new set on and added the marginal wheels. still could smell it melting and see it. i tightend the front limiters 1/4" and my problem seemed to solve itself. finished the season on the sliders.
i did all this wear in fresh snow so it pissed me off enough i talked to my yamaha tec. he was solving the problem by putting the old vmax slider plastic as it is narrower so it lets more snow in on the plastic.
easy way to tell if it is set right is by how much snow stays on the aluminum rails. when the plastic is too hot it will not have any as it heats the rails up. if it is right it will be covered in snow and ice at all times.

Is the hyfax removable from the skid without removing the skid from the sled? It looks like it could be done like we did on the SRX's.

Slide a hyfax out the back of the track window a few inches and throw the seld into reverse and rev 'er up. The hyfax will strip right off. Then get the other one. Tap the new ones on through the same windows. Works like a champ!

Len,
this sounds interesting, but I cant really envision it working with the track in reverse direction. how do you keep the hyfax from sucking up in the tunnel.. I would like to try your method, but I think I need more info before I hurt myself or my sled!

When you reverse the track direction it peels the hifax right off the rail. Just can't try the holeshot throttle setting LOL.

I must be a moron b/c I just cant envision it..... if the track spins in reverse direction how does it pull the hyfax off towards the back? I would think that it would push it towards the front.

Read his post again LOL. He said to pull it out the rear of the track window and then reverse it. It will come out the front.

YUP, no problem. I work 3rd shift and I am sometimes a little
in the morning. This trick works very well. I have reverse on most of my sled, and it REALLY saves you some time!

Got it. I may just have to try the reverse way of removing it. Sounds about right. Thanks, guys.

How are you guys getting them thru the window? The window is smaller. Are you guys cutting one window open a little?

hyfax change
I also just remove the screws at the bend and tap out the back through a track window. Starting it and putting in reverse quickens the removal. The harder part is putting the new ones on. You have to tap on and watch that they are going onto the rail correctly. The other thing is the damn screws aren't always easy to reinstall because the aluminum rail threads strip so easy. I've had to re-tap the holes a couple of times. Just take your time. A side note: add grease or lubricant to the inside of the hyfax so it slides on and off better.

Use a little dish soap on the inside of the hyfax to help it slide on better.
Best part is, it leave no residue....just a tiny trail of bubbles for the first couple of miles!
