I have an Apex Er and was wondering what i can do to increase yhe life on my hyphax. I don't understand why it is wearing so fast. i put on 500 miles of the same riding as my buddys fusion and his hyphax isn't even wearing. Both have the ripsaw track. Should i have the track fully clipped. add those slp wear pads. i like the track it hooks up nice and i don't feel the need of studs. Some opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob

Bob, if use the search feature you will find quite a few excellent threads from members about how to improve hyfax wear. I have posted a couple of the links for you.

One pair of marginal snow wheel's on front curve of the rail, just behind the rubber bumper's. Problem solved!!! kviper
Put 1700 miles on in the worst conditions this year and the hyfax are fine on the Attak. I keep the track tension loose. Adjust enough to stop the ratcheting.

The 2 biggest factors I've found for hyfax wear on these monoskids are:
1. Conditions and noticing when the hyfax is dragging a little before they get too hot (and getting into the snow or dragging a foot a little).
2. Idler wheel height. You'll notice that when the nuts that hold the idlers on are loose the idler wheels can be moved about a 1/4 inch up and down. If you have the skid off the ground and make sure the idlers are tightened up at the lowest position it makes a huge difference to hyfax wear rate.
My first set of hyfax were changed at 10,000 kms (6300 miles) and my second set were changed after 6000 kms (4000 miles).
Both times they weren't changed due to wear (first time the screw that holds them on fatigued and fell off, the second time was before the Gaspe trip and I wanted everything in perfect condition before we left).
BTW, I don't consider them worn out until they wear right down to the 10mm mark. Also, they do wear very quickly in marginal snow conditions when new.

2,940 miles on my Attack this year. Last trip I wrode literally for miles on dirt/rock roads. Still same set as new. Once they wear to 75% they seem to stop wearing.

When I replaced my stock spring and idlers I decided to replace the Hifax at the same time. I aready had the skid out anyway and they were about half way through there life. This was at about 1,000 miles. When I changed everything over I also put in a shock protector which would alow me to run the track a little loose compared to setup. I realize that were talking about an attack but I think the same premis applies. I put about 900 miles on since the swap; rode in everything from great to eight miles of ceder swamp searching for snow. Had to do it twice because that was the way to gas station. Anyway when I took it up to the wash to clean it off after the last ride I couln't beleive it. The hifax look brand new, even at the approach angle were you usually see the most initial wear. My track is not extremly loose either, just a little more the spec. I'll check the sag when I get a chance and post a measurement. What ever it is it seems to have worked.
