In an effort to actually be able to apply full throttle to my sled without track ratcheting I went ahead and ordered a My 141" skid today and a set of black rear 8" idler wheels.
I put a wanted to buy request out on Snowest and had 6 PMs from people trying to sell me one. So if anyone else wants one I can give you the contact data. There is one Fabcraft blue skid with billet wheels that is to die for but the guy wanted $1000 for it so I passed and bought one for $300. They were out of Fox Zero Pro shocks right now but for $100 he is going to sell me a set of them when he gets a couple in soon.

Ok, I understand I need to make a couple of spacers that go between the ends of the front of the rear suspension axle. How long do they need to be and how thick of stock should I use?

I also need to build two drop down brackets. Have you found 1/4" 6061 to be strong enough to support jumping, etc without bowing or the holes opening up in size? Is there room to use 5/16"? Or maybe I could use 2024 or 7075?

What were the dimensions again from front to rear axle?

What else do I need to do?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Used stock front mount holes, used aluminum round bar for spacers (1-1/4" od I think, drilled 3/8" hole in middle) and mounted a Artic Cat rail insert in it #2664-733 for added wear resistance. Used 3/8" x 3" (I think or 2-3/4") bolts to mount front torque arm to skid. Drop brackets were bent at local fab shop (1/4" offset) not sure what grade of aluminum(1/4" thick), but no signs of fatigue so far and rode some rough trail into Keystone. Used up most of the tension in the rear idlers but might be too tight, can back off a bit. I think brackets are 31-1/4" CTC, but I can double check if you need. Have pics, but files too large will email to you!

Thanks Dooman, how thick are the spacers you used on the front axle? They are 1 1/4" stock with a 3/8" hole in them but how thick (or tall) are they?

What's this "Rail insert" you installed? Does it go on the slide rails? Should I order one?

Oh yeah, the bolt swould be standard for the skid. I was thinking I was going to have to try to find some long metric bolts but standard are what I need, right? What grade of bolt did you use?

Thnaks again for the information

For the front H arm I went to the local hardware store and found a bearing spacer wich was about 1/2" thick and about 1.5" in diameter. This filled the space perfectly and allowed minimal friction....cost $1.
Then I had to get a longer bolt and found that the bolt from the bogie assembly was longer and worked well so I ordered a spare one of those so it matched. You will have to search to find the length of your arch...I think it was like 31 1/2" or something like that but it is on this 4m. I made the rear brackets out of 1/4" marine grade alluminum and did not do an offset and it has worked ok for me. I finally decided to settle on the middle mounting hole which decreases my transfer a bit but allowed me to run my under tunnel pipe. Also, though it doesn't have as much transfer feeling as some other skids, it still stays right up on top of the snow so I am not sure how much transfer a person needs. Have fun.....you're gonna love the skid. Night and Day different.

Thanks TRXSTER. I was hoping you'd share your experiences.

This bearing spacer your refer to? A bearing spacer for what kind of bearing? What exactly do I need to ask for a the auto parts store? Don't I need two of them (one for each side)?

You don't happen to know the part number for the Boggie bolts you used to mount the front of the skid do you? I will order two of them if you do and eliminate the search.

So where should I set the shocks and limiter straps?

Wasn't there something about raising (moving) the bottom mounting point for the front shock?

If you didn't have to have clearance for your single pipe where which hole would you mount the rear axle into? How do you determine where to drill the holes in the drop down brackets (vertically)? I understand you stike and arch at 31 1/4" or 31 1/2" (which is it) on the drop down bracket but how far up or down from the top or bottom do you start your holes and how far apart are they?

I think a lot of these questions will be answered when the skid arrives but thanks in advance for the help.

I feel extremely needy but could someone either give me the measurements for the drop down brackets or better yet fax me a drawing of them to 509-247-7245. I think I have some metal scoped out.

I have a drop down bracket sitting in my garage with the holes already predrilled. You should come over and get it so you can use it as a template. Will save you some time.

I'm glad you're back. We need to get together so I can get that bracket. Did your billet carb slide covers come in yet?
Do you plan on keeping the clutch spring?
I plan to put the skid in next week one day so we can head to the Blues next weekend.

Carb covers were mailed out to me today. I forgot about the spring. I can either pay you for it or order another. Whatever works for you. Let me know when you want to come get the drop down bracket. I will talk to the boss about next weekend. .

I will ask the Boss to stop by and pick up the bracket tomorrow or Sunday. I also want her to pick up my BLACK rear idler wheels.

I pulled out the Pro Action skid this evening and removed the MPI billet drop down brackets. The heat shiled over the exhaust pipes was just hanging there. There are supposed to be two front ones but I only had one. The other has departed it's home. I bet the ratcheting didn't hurt in their decision to relocate :) I drilled them off and the remaining steel rivets that were supposed to be holding them.

I'm awaiting a skid now............................
