After riding polaris for the last 15 years and not finding anything in their lineup that impresses me, I picked up an '07 Apex GT yesterday. I am so jacked! I had been swayed in this direction by a couple extensive test rides last year and a lot of great advise on this website. Thanks all for your help. I found what I think was a great deal because of advise I got here. If it ever snows I think that I will really enjoy this machine. It wasnt easy choosing between the GT and the RTX, but in the end the GT was chosen because I think the Mono skid will really work for me. I think at 10 in the morning when I am all froggy and jacked up, I would prefer the torsion skid, but at the end of the day after 300 miles and another 30 of rough trail to go, I think mono will be the better option. I also prefer high speed groomed trail Canada style riding to bashing bumps, so the flatter cornering the GT is supposed to provide should suit me, as well. I liked the color/graphics of the GT better as well. Not to say I couldnt have been happy on the RTX.
Now, I have 30 days to decide on the extended warrany with a $50 savings. Does anyone have experience with the program and is it favorable? Is it worth it? I can do most maintenace and repairs here in my garage, but the motor is a little high tech now compared to my past sleds.
Does anyone have any ideas for a shorter windsheild? I'll keep the stock one for Canada, but I was thinking about one off a '06 RTX for warmer days. You think the reds will play nice or are they different shades of red?
I bought a set of saddle bags, but they may not be big enough. Has anyone got a real sweet setup for cargo on longer trips, say a week or so. And what can I put over the painted exhaust covers to keep the bags from chaffing the paint off there?
Thanks for everyone's help. I am excited to be one of the converted. And to think, just 2 short seasons ago, I would have told you that
#1: I would never own a 4 stroke and
#2: I would never own a Yamaha!
Just shows ya, never say never!

Welcome to the world of 4 strokes and congrats on your purchase. You won't be looking back, except for the guys that ride with you.
I have the Combination Sport Luggage and found it fine for 6 day trips. Yes it is a bit smaller than larger luggage bags, but I only carry a set of clothes for night, under garmets, razor, hairbrush, toothbrush, and tooth paste. Used this bag numerous times and it does not chaff the exhaust or seat.

You should also look at installing the Front Storage Bag, as this will give you options for stowing a tow rope, flash light, etc. I even store an extra shirt to wear in this bag.

Welcome to the fourstroke croud. I took my Apex touring last year in Northern Ontario and loved it. I used the semi rigid Yamaha saddle bags on my trip and really liked them. I heard some guys had problems with them but in my experience I would highly suggest them. What I like about them is they are designed to fit around your exhaust covers and have a felt fabric over the indent to protect your painted covers. Also if you don't think you have enough room with them there is still plenty of room for a trunk bag to be mounted on top of the rear seat. For touring up north I would suggest the mid height windsheild and a set of Duece bars to limit darting. This was the only flaw I could find with the sled, in certain conditions the stock skis will dart. I have since put a set of Pilot skis on my sled and my second choice would be a set of duece bars from Stud Boy.

I would just keep the stock 07 gt windshield on the sled due to the cold air you get on the apex. I have a 06 gt that came with a low shield and switched it to the medium shield to get the warmer ride. keep your stock shield. I like the mono set up with the exception of the kocking you get over some bumps. If I was to buy another short track I would have bought the rtx with torsion springs. My shock last year on the gt blown and was to soft. I had it revalved and respringed, hope it is ok....

Congrats on a smart purchase. Once u get the hang of setting up your sled, u will be happy. I got a set of coldwave sattle bags made for a 2 stroke so to go on my apex i took black electrical tape and taped the exhaust covers where the bags will rub. Sounds rough but it works good and tape can be pulled off easely when u want and doesn't leave any glue residue. I also got a smaller yamaha bag to go on the back of the seat and a under hood bag if u are interested.

Congrats on the new sled. I was a Polaris guy for years until I bought my Apex ER. I bought the Choko saddlebags and they fit very nicely. It may be hard to see them in this picture but I can post some more tomorrow for you when I get it out of the trailer.

I rode last years RTX with the low windshield and I really had no problem with it, and I like the looks better, but I will definatley keep the stock one for colder rides. As far at the shock goes, I heard they had quite a bit of trouble with them, and that was almost enough to make me go with the RTX, but in the end I heard they have addressed some of those chronic issues. So here is hoping!

I got the YES extended warranty. It has paid for itself. They replaced the coils and a couple of rear wheels.

I rode a 2000 mile ride in 21 days in late march across about 1/3 of Alaska. I use the ridgid apex bags and tank&windshield bag my bag wore a little and I asked the dealer about asking yamaha to replace them no luck. I also messed the paint on my o6 rtx tank cover from the tank bag and may have be runnin a tad heavy long ruff trails extra tools did not need of course its a yamaha. one ar 15 to hunt wolves and wolvirine great trip yamaha rep wanted some photos need to send what ever you beware of over loading have had past year bags and zippers would come open at hi speeds get some good trail make time 60 to 80 mph enjoy your new yamaha you made a great choice I know I complain now and then about yamaha but we now 12600 dollars shipped to western coastal alaska and I feel I should get my moneys worth we all work hard for it good luck kim
