I am trying to replace the exhaust donuts, and a left side broken y-pipe on my '06 Apex RTX with 3875 mi on it. I have evey bolt out, and the clamps are completely removed. I cannot get the slip joints to release at the front of the muffler pipe. I have tried bending the flanges out a bit, heated them up cherry red, placed a block of wood on the muffler itself and hit rearwards with a hammer. I just don't know what else to do, heating them up is probably the best way but there is such limited space to try and move them around, and you can only hold onto the pipes for so long when they're that hot (I'm using welding gloves). I'm trying to avoid taking it to the dealer, as they have said the repair most likely wouldn't be covered under a warranty. They wouldn't give me a strait answer, so I decided to try it myself, but I'm beginning to think this was a mistake.

make sure all four bolts are out of the muffler and lift it up alittle bit then work it back and forth they can be a c@%$ sometimes. good luck maybe others can give you some ideas i know mine were the obvious ones but its good to check.
Just pull hard and rock it back and forth.

Awalb,
Are you still covered under YES? If so, this is definately a warranty repair.

Bingo!! Grabbed hold of the muffler and twisted it back and forth while pulling rearward on it. It came right off in about 2 minutes. Thanks for the help, now I can put this jigsaw puzzle back together.
P.S. no, I didn't get the Y.E.S. so I'm not covered, but the dealer may be able to warrenty the parts, but not the labor which is why I took it apart myself. I didn't get the Y.E.S. because this is the 3rd new Yammi that I have bought since '99 and I have never needed it in the past. Needless to say I am not too happy with the exhaust issues happening with the Apex!

If they do not cover the left Y-Pipe, let me know. I have one that has about 400 miles on it. I can send you pics, it looks brand new. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I think new it was around 300 new. I don't know your location so maybe not worth it but let me know. Also I would recomend removing and inspecting all your flex pipes. They can crack in one of the folds and it's difficult to tell with it on the sled. Your going to want to remove them to get the Y-pipes off anyway. It beats removing the bracket.
