I Need Vector Stud Advice

Well, it's been a while, has anyone got any updates on their # of studs and patterns? I need to stud it up and would sure appreciate a little more opinion.

Thanks Guys!

I have a Woody's template, and used the 144 center belt pattern, but instead of having 3 studs per every row, I went 3, then 2, then 3....and so on and so forth. This way if I want to add the additional 24, all I have to do is add in the additional stud to the rows where there are only 2.

I used 1.325" Woody's Megabites with round alluminum backers and was real pleased with the set up after this last weekend.

update

I put 600 miles on mine this weekend and I have changed my tune a little on my earlier opinion. During the first 100 miles I was confusing the excellent grip of the Ripsaw with stud performance and thought I would be happy with 96. After a lot of miles this weekend on very icy trails, I am going to install the remaining 48 that I had bought.

Another thing that I wasn't real happy about were the scratch lines left on a frozen lake with my pattern. My friends Pro X left a very wide patch of individual scratch lines, where mine left 2 deep trenches about 2" wide each. Too much repitition. I should have offset some of the holes slightly when marking from the templet. Hopefully the remaining 48 will fill in the empty areas. I am going to lay out a couple repititions of my templet on a long sheet of paper and add the remaining marks to chech the scratch lines before drilling the rest of the holes in the track.

Personally, if I had it to do over, I think I'd do it freehand or look at those photos of Flipper's pattern again.

This is what I did

I created 13 scratch lines evenly spaced in the centre belt. The pattern repeats every eight rows. Here are the measurements for the stud locations measured left to right from the inside edge of the windows.

Row 1: 7/8,2-3/8,6-3/8
Row 2: 2-3/8,3-7/8,5-3/8
Row 3: 1-3/8, 5-3/8, 6-7/8
Row 4: 2-7/8, 4-3/8, 5-7/8
Row 5: 7/8, 2-3/8, 6-3/8
Row 6: 2-3/8, 3-7/8, 5-3/8
Row 7: 1-3/8, 5-3/8, 6-7/8
Row 8: 1-7/8, 3-3/8, 4-7/8

Suggest you mark these out on paper and ensure you are happy with the spacing and pattern before drilling your track.
