I have an Attak with a backcountry 44mm track, I think it´s a great sled on trail but off-trail it trenches bad. It moves a lot of snow but the rear end just digs deeper.
After reading on this forum and looking at the mountain machines I have been thinking about a couple of changes that would make it a better sled off-trail hopefully.

1. Lower the front with internal shims in the shocks about 20mm (and the preload on the springs also) , which would lower the front about 30-35mm.
2. Lower the skid with drop brackets in the rear only, about 50mm.
3. Shorten the limiter strap 1-2 holes, mines in the middle now.
4. Angle the tunnel extension upwards for more clearence.

As I see it, it would make the angle of attack better and still have the skid horisontal to the ground. The sled should get better in deep snow.
The only negative effect would be lower ground clearence in the front, but the Apex is already pretty high if you compare it to other brands.
The rider sits a bit higher but the lower cg of the sled should compensate for it.

So what do you guys think?

Is there any geometric problem with this regarding track tensioning or other?

I would like to thank everbody who has contributed with there knowledge and questions to make this a great forum.

How about moutain skis or something equivilant

The more track the better, streatch it to a 144..

Wouldnt you want the limiter strap all the way loose in deep snow.. To keep the skis off the snow and the weight on the track where you need it..??

Check out the skid geometry of an xtx. I would look for a used xtx skid & try to duplicate the way it is set up on the nytro cus it sure gets on top of the snow.

Thanks for your replys.

About the skis, in sweden the Attak comes with "touring skis" they are as wide as the moutain ski but have a shallower keel. So the sled have good floatation front, is almost to good beacuse it seems to make the angle of the sled to steep.

I have tried letting the limiter strap all out but it got worse, the skis barley touched the snow. I belive the attack angel gets worse with longer limiter strap.

The 144 track is a good idea but I dont know how to make the skid work?
And the Attak is a heavier sled so how does the suspension work?

I have been looking at the XTX skid, but do you know how it works on trail?

I have no hope of making it a "mountain machine" but I would gladly trade off some on-trail capacity for some off-trail.
