Want to try and make my Apex 162 as good a trail sled as it can possibly be. The track is already cut down to about 1 3/4, The sled does have fox floats up front. I understand the Mountain is much narrow then the 121 apex. But is it possible to make it alittle better on the trails ?

it's going to be hard to make it a good trail sled, I tried this with my RX1 mtn and I could keep up to short tracks but it was hard, the narrow a-arms are going to make the sled tippy and the 162" track is going to make it hard to turn, the sled just isn't designed for what you want it to do, now if you don't mind being left behind who cares but if you want to keep up to a short track then you need to get wider a arms and cut the track down some more, just my 2cents

Re: Need tips on making an Apex 162" SE a decent Trail
Save your money on re-configuring. Sell it and buy a XTX.

I was in the same predicament you speak of a couple years ago with the purchase of a new 08 apex mtx. This is what I did.
Widened frontend ( new a-arms, spindles, tierods, shocks)
Shaved track 1 1/4
23/40 gearing
Love it!! A bit of a bear to handle riding with the boys, but when used cross-country or as long-distance Tourer fits the bill nicely. Length bridges bumps and rides nicely and with gearing and clutching setup runs mid 120's. Hope this helps. Send me a pm if more questions.
Had done same thing to rx-1 mountain and sold it with 31,600 miles. Like this apex better.

31,600 miles.... I'm jealous!!!!!! both apex's are a bit over 10 on each... that mileage is impresive!!!!
