It's in the middle of the second and third carburators. It's a standard head screw with a spring on it.

dumb question, but which way decreases/increases the idle... is there a standard rule of thumb?
thanks for asking that i was afraid to . i was trying to bump up my idle and turning the screw didnt yield the result i was looking for . i did not want to be messing with the carb sync . i will have to look again when i get home

I beleive turning it clockwise will increase the idle, though I am not for sure. You will just have to turn it and find out, you won't hurt anything by turning it the wrong way and having to go back. You will have to adjust it slightly, maybe a quarter turn at a time, and then what I do is rev the motor a little and let it return to idle to see what the new idle speed is.

yeah, I am not afraid to ask the dumb question because there is always someone else wondering... hopefully someone else chimes in to answer it.

Gold colored screw in center of carb rack, Clockwise to raise idle - CCW to lower. As said before, 1/4 turn increments and give it a little gas after each adjustment to see where the idle falls to. Also, once you start bringing it up to over 1500 rpms, you will notice that the idle tends to hang so I keep it at abut 1500 and just deal with the gear reduction noise.

When taken above 1500 rpm you take the carb out of the idle circuit and then when coming to a stop the motor will idle fast until it can change circuits. Live with the rattle, but if you need to adjust, the screw is gold colored and has a single slot for a slot head screw driver and serated lines around the head. Pretty obvious once you see it.
great help thanks all .

Just be careful when turning it up....make sure to set the parking brake. Set the idle too high and it will bump to the main fuel circuit instead of idle and rev the motor way up, possibly engaging the clutch. Just something to be careful of.
I don't mind the gear reduction rattle, if I'm idling for more than 15-20 seconds I just shut it off anyway.
Mine tends to idle either on the slow side, or too fast. Normally it idles right around 1000, sometimes a little less, like 700 or so. If I turn it up half a turn, nothing happens. Any more and the idle jumps to like 2000 and it takes forever to slow down if you let off the gas.

rawarrior, it sounds like your pilot jets need cleaning. be sure when setting idle rpm that the sled is fully warmed up.

What is this gear reduction noise you are talking about?
I thought it was a rattle in the primary clutch. I raised the idle a little to eliminate the rattling noise.
I never had any rattle until I blew a belt last season. Had to have the clutches pulled to remove strands of webbing from the belt; also had the seal replaced at the same time behind the primary.
I've got 5894 miles on my Warrior.

You should be able to set the idle up to say, ... 1800 Rs with no problem. If you cannot, then there is something else wrong. May be time to clean the carbs. After you clean them, sync them. Then set the idle to 1600-1800 RPMs. If you do this, the gear reducer rattle will go away.
The rattle with the gear reducer is a common noise. The best work around is to set the idle to 1600 to 1800 Rs. The rattle is coming from the large tolerance between the two gears. The tolerance was reduced in later models

Gear reduction noise?
I'm with rbailey3711 on this. I had a noise from the clutch, thought it was from the weights and their piviot pin being worn. After inspection I replaced the outer primary clutch cover with the bushing in the middle, the noise was gone. I have over 9000 miles on 04 warrior and have no noise from the gear reduction. I could be wrong on this and not understanding fully the noise that is being herd from others, but mine had a very noticeable rattle while idling, upon higher revs it was gone.
On the idle problem (no moderate adjustment)I also think it is a carb problem. Add some Sea Foam to get you through the season. This will not take the place of a through cleaning, but may help.
