With 8000 miles on my sled I was thinking I'd replace the idler wheels before they start falling off. I'm finding out it's going to cost me $350 in parts for all 9 wheels from Babbitt's on line. Is there a cheaper source for these things? Is there a way to get the bearings out and replace just them?

If the idlers aren't worn out just replace the bearings. Very simple to do, should be a snap ring holding the bearing in. Once that's out take a socket that fits the inner race of the bearing and just tap it out with a hammer. Set it up on top of a vice if you need with the jaws spread so the bearing will go threw. Just do the reverse for install.

Should be able to do them all for under 100 bucks..

Putting my sled in the shop this aft. for this very same repair. Only the rear axle though as one bearing has gone out on it. Not in the mood right now to pull the skid and do the rest of them.

If you have a 2009 then your wheels do not have replaceable bearings... 2010 is when they switched to the other style.

Yeah, it's an 09. The bearings don't come out.

The x-wheel kit for an rtx is only $225 and comes with the extra mounting hardware. The kit is worth every penny and cured slider wear for me. For the rear axle, replace your outer wheels with the new style black spoked wheels off of 2012 and newer yamaha's. The have replaceable bearings and also look sweet with the x-wheels. They're about 25-30 bucks a piece from the dealer and they come with bearings as well. The inner rear solid black wheel on the axle and the wheels where the skid bolts to the tunnel are replaceable bearings though, go figure ;)!

Discovered this afternoon that only the inner bearing is indeed replaceable on the rear axle. Sorry for the bad advice on my first post. Didn't realise yamaha had changed things.

Sureley the other bearings in the skid are replaceable though aren't they?? Pretty rediculous to have to change out a perfectly good idler just because of a bad bearing.

If the bearings are not bad, pop the covers off, clean the bearings and apply new grease to them.

If they are bad, get the spoked Yamaha accessory wheels or something like excell if you have a slider issue.
