Is there a way to turn the motor over on an RX1 with out it firing and starting.
The reason being is, and I hate to keep beating a dead horse but, I had talked to a guy about my oil consumption issue with my sled and explained to him about the possible carbon buildup in the rings that some 03 and 04's have and that some have been fixed with the ring free. He told that he had a motorcycle that had the same issue. He removed the plugs and poured seafoam in the cylinders and let it soak for a few days. After a few days he cranked the motor over (with the spark plugs out) to help get rid of the seafoam liquid in the cylinders so the motor wouldn't vapor lock and damage a piston or connecting rod, changed the engine oil and he was good to go. He claimed that his oil consumption had dropped to 1/3 of what it was. It might be a shot in the dark but I figure I have to change the oil when the season is over anyway so it cant hurt to try. Also going to try some seafoam in the engine oil for a bit before I change it. I know some of you will tell me that nothing will work because it is a ring wear issue, but some have had luck and had it free up so I have to at least try this.

you can turn the clutch by hand with some effort.

yeah but, I just don't think it would be enough to help shoot out any residual seafoam liquid.

I think you answered your own question. If you take the plugs out, it won't start.

Take the plugs out, but make absolutely sure to ground them out so they are still sparking... You risk destroying the ignition system otherwise.
The other alternative would be to make sure your kill switch is off, and just use a jumper cable to connect the terminals on the starter solenoid together.

Cool I will give those a try. Thanks guys

Just curious on how turning engine over with plugs out and coils disconnected would harm the ignition system?
Also with seafoam being ejected from sparkplug hole, I sure wouldnt want a spark near there.

This is just an idea, maybe its not a good one but here it goes. What if you took your plugs out and then put a impac air wrench on your clutch and turned the engine over that way. It might turn over the engine fast enough and not risk damage to your ignition.

Coils disconnected is fine obviously, and in a 4 stroke yamaha, it would be unusual for someone to plug the coil back in, but... you never know.

First off, I think most if not all of the seafoam will seep by the rings over 2 or 3 days so hydrolocking wont be a problem. If you want to play it safe just turn the primary clutch over by hand one complete revolution. If it turns by hand it means that it won't hydrolock. I had an 03 RX1 and when I used seafoam I would lift the back of the sled as high as I could in an attempt to make sure the cylinders were pointing straight up. Remember the engine is angled backwards. This makes sure the seafoam is touching the rings all the way around the piston.

That's true about spinning the clutch by hand and would be the best and easiest idea. Also leveling the engine buy lifting the back. Did the seafoam work for your sled.

True, some people aren't to bright Also curious if seafoam worked?

Won't be able to tell if the seafoam worked or not till next year. I put the recommended 1.5 oz of sf per 1 liter of oil and put on 30 miles yesterday. Then when I got home I raised up the back of the sled so that the engine was level an dropped about an oz of seafoam in each cylinder and let it sit. Spun the clutch by hand a few times throughout the day. Looks like the seafoam has leaked past the rings which I guess it would, through the ring gaps. I will put it back together tomorrow and start it up till warm and change the oil. I have the quads out now so there will be no more sledding for me but I will start the well needed maintenance to have it ready for next year.
