I'm sled shopping found a deal, any thoughts?

other yamis I'm interested in are an 07 apex rtx, 06 nytro, and possibly another rev or xp etec.. so any input on any of them is appreciated.

you guys are tough......

I don't even own a Yamaha...but $5900 for an 08 Nytro with that low miles is a good deal.

To the OP: I believe the biggest difference between the 08 Nytro's and later year Nytro's was the handling was twitchy on the 08's, and that was fixed for 09. Lots of people rode the 08's and loved them, so you could either live with the handling or take steps to improve it. That's a good deal IMO.

The word twtichy being used to describe the sleds handling scare me. I do 45-75 speeds even on slower trails. My rev rode like it was on rails and I loved it for that. I dont think even for a good price I want anything twitchy... what exactly does twitchy mean in this case anyway??
you guys are trying to put me back on a doo, lol!!

BTW Mighty, have you seen any good deals on any 09 XTX's new or used?
Nope. Alot for sale and none are selling. Buyers are too high. Price em right and they'll sell. Keep price where they are at and they won't.

i wouldn't even look at an 06 nytro if i were you. a friend of mine went from a rev 800 to an 06 nytro and completly hated the thing. if i were you id ride youre 01 yami and wait till end of march for an 09 xtx nytro. there's always "steal of a deal" at the end of winter.

Different stroke for....well you know the saying. I for one had a lot of fun on my 06 Nytro and I liked the feel better than my wife's Rev. The Nytro has a much more solid feel than the Rev.

If he "completely" hated it than I doubt he took the time to set it up properly.

Ever hit a patch of black ice on a road?...I have. Similar feeling on this sled. Imagine going 40-50 down a slightly curvy rolling trail. Next thing you know you and the sled are barrel rolling down the trail...and hopefully not into the trees.

My dealer would not sell this sled to anyone without prequalifying them to ride it. If you weren't a very athletic, football build kind of person, they would not sell you one no matter what.

This sled is for pro snowcross or cross country racers only.

If you want a Yamaha led that's more Rev like, a Vector (any year but 05) or pre 08 Nytro's are what you might like. Forget the Apex...it will feel like a tank compared to your Rev. Any 4S Yamaha will feel front heavy vs. your Rev.

Go to a Yamaha dealer and feign interest in a used 4S and ask to take it for a test ride.

Or...buy another Rev in the XP chassis (nice chassis!) and if you really want a 4S, the 1200 Doo motor has been really good so far.

Blast away if you guys want to....I really like my Vector but it's nice that we have choices! ;)!

I drove one..yikes....my first thought would be wider handlebars...you would get used to it in time...not that bad...

I haven't driven the Apex. However I did drive the 2010 Vector LTX. That was probably the best trail sled I have EVER ridden. To put it in prospective my wife is 5' and 100 lbs. She originally wanted a Yamaha because she like the features my Rx-Warrior had over her 2002 MXZ. So I bought her a 2006 Nytro. It was way too much sled for her. After about 30 mins of riding she done. She needed something that was much easier to steer.

So from there I went to a 2006 MXZ 500SS. She liked that but still liked the fit, finish, and quality feel of the the Yamaha's.

Well a couple weeks ago we were up at Pat's Yamaha for her to try a Phazer. And since I always wanted to try an Apex I thought I would do that at the same time. Unfortunately, or fortunately, they had no demo but they did have a 2010 Vector LTX. So I took that.

IMMEDIATELY I was impressed with whole sled. Great smooth power, easy throttle pull, and it felt like it had power steering even with the long track!

Anyway, we got about 2 miles down the trail and my wife said she really didn't like the Phazer at all. So we switched and headed back.

She LOVED the new Vector. I am happy as he!! now because she can finally have a Yamaha that she can ride all day and not get tired!

So anyway, if you can swing it I would seriously consider waiting till the end of the season and pick up a leftover Vector!

Otherwise I would seriously find a dealer with Demos and try em all. Had we not my wife would have probably gotten a Phazer for next year and been unhappy. And we all know what happens with the Mrs's is not happy!

Also if you are just a trail rider don't bother with the Nytro. It is not meant to be a cruising sled. And I don't care what anyone will tell you otherwise there is no way to make the Nytro rail like you can the Deltabox II chassis. That being said I LOVE my Nytro. I USED to be a 90+% trail rider but after running the power lines in the U.P. with my XTX, things that I would never do with my Warrior, I doubt I will ever be without a long track again. The short track would be good for ditch banging in areas where there isn't a lot of snow. Personally I would stay away from the short track in favor of the XTX. Especially if you do any off trail in places like the UP.

I really enjoy my 07 Nytro. Handling could be better but its a great sled for me and I wouldnt trade it in for anything else. I'm keeping this sled until its a colectors item. Had enough power to make me smile and love the torque. I rarily ever max teh speed out due to where I ride which is mostly trails and fields. By the time I hit 90 I'm at the end of the field.

What I mean by handling is that I wish it didnt feel heavy upfront but with suspention changes I should be able to correct this. I made adjustments when I first bought the sled and made it more enjoyable to ride to my liking and then I bought some upgrades which made it even more fun to ride but now I need to fine tune the sled again which I know I can do. I actually made a lot of suspention changes this weekend and now need snow to see how it all works out

Test ride some 07 nytros, vectors. or even the newer vecters.

I spent last weekend in upstate NY (Tug Hill) with three rev guys. Yamaha had demo rides at Flat Rock Inn so I rode the XTX. I didn't feel as if it was a big enough improvement for me to want to replace my 08 Nytro. I also rode the 2010 vector and the Apex LTX. I was impressed with them both and would trade my Nytro for either one if I could get the right deal. The Vector was smooth riding, handled well and was sneaky fast. Getting of the Vector onto the Apex I immediately felt the weight but it makes it up in power.

The three Rev guys I was with all rode my 08 Nytro. The first one called the Nytro a Cadillac compared to his rev600HO. I didn't like his rev and I don't think I'd call a Nytro a Cadillac. The second guy that rode it thought it was lighter than his 800GSX and loved how it went through the rough stuff. The third guy liked the engine pull but wasn't impressed with the handling. I rode his 800GSX and it was maybe the best riding and handling sled I've been on so I can understand his take on the Nytro. Two of the three are thinking about changing over to Yamaha.

I did a demo ride on a 08 Nytro at Pioneer Motorsports (Bruce's demo) so I knew what I was buying. I'd recommend doing a demo ride before buying a Nytro. As stated many times, "they're not for everyone".

Guys thanks so much for all the posts, lots of great info and just what I need!

Let me pout my riding into perspective alittle better..
I have an 01 yami vmax 600, and had a 2006 rev600sdi x package. I like the sit down ride of the yami cause at the times I want to sit and cruise, and I like the rev cause it rode like it was on rails, crazy fast/torque/smooth for a 2stroke and I could beat the hell out of it on rough trails with a huge smile.
I'm really looking to put them both together to have a happy medium. I'm getting older, lazier and I like to sit cruise now just as much as mogul mash.
would you guys still recommend and 06-07 nytro, or newer vector? I have to say I sat on the new 2010 vector in the showroom at the local yami/doo dealer and out of all the sleds looks/sitting i liked the vector alot. But its expensive! How close are the 07-07 nytros to the vectors? is 4,300 a good price for a 06 nytro with 2,300 miles?
Overall how much different are the older nytros, vectors and rx-1's from eachother?

I sold my 06 rev and going back to yami again. So I came across an 08 nytro 40th anniversary with ohlins shocks, yamaha large tank bag, soft hand covers and some other extras with 2,300 miles on it with a warranty till 12/2010.
the guy was asking 6400 we met at 5900 cash.. good deal or no?
Good deal!!! Just add the semi-aggressive Snow Trackers and it will handle like a new sled!!! ;)!

maxout, i would reccomend an older chassis nitro or apex for you. those are more rider forward like the vector you sat on. they are also old enough that some deals on used are popping up. you can go rx1 but you need an apex seat and bar riser to get the same seating position.
